We are currently in search of a Chief Archivist who can also assume a leadership role in driving operations, team management, and strategic departmental growth. This is a position for someone who thrives in a dynamic environment and has a passion for preserving history while ensuring it remains accessible and engaging.
Key Responsibilities:
- Departmental Leadership: Lead and manage the professional archival team, ensuring the highest standards of practice and efficiency.
- Operational Oversight: Manage departmental budgets, develop strategic plans, oversee reporting, and implement schedules and policies.
- Archival Excellence: Execute best practices in assessments, organizing, cataloging, preservation, and other core archival tasks.
- Team Development: Train, mentor, and provide opportunities for growth within the archival team.
- Client Consultation: Offer expert archival recommendations in a consultative environment and keep abreast of new archival methodologies to advise clients.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with other departments to ensure streamlined operations and project execution.
- Strategic Innovation: Investigate and implement innovative strategies to enhance collection access, awareness, and utility.
Requirements
- 7+ years of archival processing experience with diverse formats.
- 3+ years in leadership roles, including team management and project oversight.
- Proven experience in operations and departmental management.
- Strong project management, reporting, and scheduling skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Proficiency in relevant technology, including DAMs and Microsoft Office.
- Availability for travel, as required.
- MA in History (with archival experience), MLIS or MHP (Master of Heritage Preservation) with an Archives Specialization or equivalent.
