Position Summary

Northern Trust is hiring a Chief Cloud Architect to be a member of the Enterprise Architecture (EA) team. EA is responsible for developing a technology strategy designing core capabilities that will enable Northern Trust to be more secure, agile, resilient, and scalable while reducing technology sprawl enabling execution on its business strategies. Your role will be to lead the charge in modernizing Northern Trust's systems and guiding cloud transformations.

As Chief Cloud Architect you will be responsible for overseeing cloud computing strategy, including cloud adoption plans, cloud application design, and cloud management and monitoring. As part of this you will assist in the creation and governance of a Cloud Center of Excellence. The goal of the CoE is to develop a framework and strategy for cloud adoption that will lead Northern trust in achieving an operationally excellent, secure, reliable, efficient, cost-optimized, and sustainable portfolio in a cloud environment. Major Duties

• Develop and maintain multi-year cloud strategy and products roadmap including architecture blueprints
• Manage a team of 50-100 individuals with a budget of $50-100 million
• Identify and evangelize key business and technology benefits of public cloud adoption
• Align business and IT needs with Enterprise Architecture strategy to ensure successful cloud migration and adoption
• Lead in execution of the technology vision, strategy and reference architectures
• Support the creation and governance of a Cloud Center of Excellence
• Develop research, standardization, and open-source strategy supporting the transition to cloud-native
• Apply a passion for technology and understanding of key industry trends and emerging technologies in the cloud space to Enterprise Architecture
• Communicate complex information clearly and concisely to a variety of technical and non-technical audiences
• Plan, build, and run cloud foundation services and support

Experience

• Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field
• 5+ years of experience in cloud architecture, engineering or development including experience in cloud automation frameworks, public cloud infrastructure deployments and solutions in large enterprises
• Expert understanding of public cloud compute services, experience with Azure or AWS
• Well versed with Well Architected frameworks driving Operation excellence, Security, Reliability, Performance efficiency, Cost Optimization, and Sustainability
• Exceptional collaboration and partnership skills with the ability to work in a global environment and drive consensus in cross-functional teams
• Expert understanding of product-driven organizations and how IT adds value to business streams
• Knowledge working across IT areas. Expect experience with enterprise architecture fundamentals including:
  • Business architecture - mapping strategy to execution - e.g., business capability mapping
  • Systems and technical architecture - integration patterns, evolution to cloud architectures
• Experience with enterprise architecture that provides an approach for designing, planning, implementing, and governing an enterprise information technology architecture
• Experience regularly interfacing with C-suite executives
• Experience with executive-level presentations and influencing stakeholders in all levels of leadership
• Experience advocating cloud strategy, implementation, and adoption to employees at all levels of the organization
• Experience in Financial Services

Preferred Certifications

One or more of the following certifications is preferred, but not required:

• Google Certified Professional Cloud Architect
• Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect
• AWS Certified Solutions Architect
