CHIEF CREDIT OFFICER
WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY?
The Chief Credit Officer leads the 2LOD function that provides independent oversight of the Bank's credit risk as well as the development of credit quality review policies and procedures, the credit approval process, administration of the loan portfolio and portfolio analysis, special assets and officer credit training programs. The Chief Credit Officer will provide the leadership and vision to develop and execute lending and credit risk policies and strategies in support of the Bank's business objectives.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?
- Oversee the loan approval process which includes the loan committee structure, as well as monitoring systems.
- Provide portfolio management oversight to ensure that the Bank’s asset quality and loan profitability meet stated objectives and that the overall credit relationship management emphasis of the organization is consistent with the Bank’s underwriting standards.
- Ensure that the Credit Administration team is appropriately staffed and with a strong succession bench.
- Ensure that credit policies are routinely reviewed and well-communicated throughout the organization.
- Work closely with RBC credit teams to ensure consistency with enterprise practices.
- Provide oversight of the entire loan portfolio to include analysis of loan concentrations by sector, product and geography.
- Maintain ongoing support of the Bank’s credit culture for all lending units.
- Oversee staff development programs including credit analysis training and continuing education opportunities for all lending officers to ensure that their skills are of the finest quality in their markets.
- Ensure that all loan systems and tracking techniques provide the required data to support risk ratings and loan adjudication as well as reporting to regulators, executive management and the Board of Directors.
- Ensure that loan documentation, systems and procedures are consistent with the highest standards in the industry and are appropriate for all regulatory agencies.
- Oversee the special assets division, which provides ongoing hands on collection efforts for troubled assets.
- Maintain a highly active market overview of the competitive activities to ensure that City National Bank is appropriately positioned to take full advantage of changes and opportunities in their target market segments.
- Interface with regulators as required.
- Provide institutional oversight of the Bank’s credit extension activities to ensure that all policies and procedures are conducted with the highest integrity and consistency.
- Responsible and accountable for appropriate quality controls related to the financial products the bank provides, the services the bank delivers, the processes employed and the incentives with which colleagues are awarded.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED
Must-Have*
- Bachelor's Degree
- 15 years of credit experience in Commercial, Real Estate, and Specialty lending
- Minimum 6 years of experience in a senior management position
Skills and Knowledge
- An undergraduate degree in finance or economics is required, and an advanced degree is highly desirable.
- A minimum of fifteen years of credit experience, which should include lending experience in wholesale and commercial credit and real estate or specialty finance areas. Experience should also include several years in credit oversight positions as a senior credit administrator or senior loan officer from a prominent commercial banking institution.
- Must have proven executive level skills including significant responsibility in a senior management role.
- Knowledge of specialist lending activities that may include: entertainment lending, private banking, telecommunication and media, technology, mortgage warehousing, equipment leasing and other.
- An interpersonal style which enables the executive to effectively interface with senior management including the President, City National Bank, Board of Directors, clients, other colleagues, and regulators.
- Communicates in an open, candid, clear and consistent manner. Someone who listens effectively and probes for new ideas.
- The ability to attract, build and develop a talented and creative team with sufficient knowledge, skills, experience and positive work habits to drive successful delivery of the company’s credit strategies. Someone who effectively partners with key constituents and constituencies and is recognized for being a team player and collaborative.
- In summary, the Chief Credit Officer is a proven, knowledgeable and proactive credit leader; a seasoned executive with a proven credit mind, with deep credit and leadership experience in a rapid growth environment. This person will have the strategic overview experience to provide direction for the Bank’s lending and credit activities, while as the same time, providing the secure protection through policies, procedures and disciplines.
- The individual will be a professional manager, who has an approachable, personable style but who also has high energy and drive. The person’s integrity will be unquestioned and will also be an important ingredient in his or her make up.
- This position must be personable and diplomatic, possess understanding of others and be dedicated to supporting the communities in which City National operates.
