Lakeridge Health is seeking a Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Co-Medical Director,
Women and Children’s Program to lead the collegial, interprofessional Department and
comprehensive Program with a focus on quality clinical, operational, academic, and strategic
leadership. The program has active Labour and Delivery Units at three hospital sites with a
combined delivery rate of approximately 4,500 deliveries per year, Level 2C and Level 2B
Neonatal ICUs, and an evolving Gynecological Oncology program including robotic surgery.
Obstetrical services are currently provided by 20+ OB/GYNs across our Ajax-Pickering and Oshawa sites, in addition to our team of Midwives, Family Medicine Obstetrical Providers and Gynecologic Oncologists.
The Chief, under the general direction of the Chief of Staff, is responsible for the professional
practice and quality of care provided by the physicians within the Department of Obstetrics and
Gynecology in a manner that is consistent with the Hospital’s Core Values and Leadership and
Management Competencies. The Co-Medical Director, accountable to the Health Services
Executive, Clinical Services, will co-manage our Women and Children’s Program with the
Administrative Director and the Chief and Medical Director for Pediatrics and Neonatology.
Partnering and leveraging the Quadruple Aim framework for health system redesign to lead and further develop this expansive Program, the Chief and Co-Medical director will be engaging and leading the medical staff in the department in the development and implementation of the goals, strategic directions, and academic advancement of the Program.
Building on Lakeridge Health’s expertise, this is a unique opportunity to co-lead and build a
connected system of care for Women and Children in Durham Region.
A trusted clinician and physician leader, the Chief and Co-Medical Director must be an outstanding collaborator and communicator, promoting the mission and vision of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and of the organization. The successful candidate will be supported to pursue faculty appointments with our Academic Partners and will be expected to facilitate the academic advancement of the Department members, including the support of research and education initiatives.
Experience in leadership roles in complex health care organizations is an important prerequisite for this position. The successful applicant must be licensed (or eligible for licensure) by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario and be recognized as a specialist by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or equivalent (such as CPSO recognized specialist with US board certification).
