As the Chief Engineer of York Space Systems, you will work alongside our Chief Technology Officer, Principal Engineers, and the VP of Engineering to lead the product development process. You will be accountable for key engineering processes and driving integration across all of our engineering functions to ensure York delivers on its promise of affordability and agility without compromise to quality.
The ideal candidate for this role enjoys engaging in program execution as well as organizational development. With extensive experience across the lifecycle of spacecraft development, you are an excellent mentor to high potential engineers and a key consultant to all programs. In this role you will shape the operational philosophy of our engineering teams and strive for process standardization. You will focus most of your time on guiding technical decision making internally but will also represent York externally with our customers.

As the Chief Engineer of York Space Systems, you will work alongside our Chief Technology Officer, Principal Engineers, and the VP of Engineering to lead the product development process. RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serve as the company’s technical authority for a family of product line systems and corresponding programs and proposals.
- Identify common challenges across programs and facilitate collaboration of team members to ensure technical topics are addressed robustly and consistently.
- Own the process for York technical reviews, working to continuously improve our product performance and robustness. Facilitate all internal technical reviews.
- Support product change review boards, own and facilitate the MRB.
- Actively engage in the development and continuous improvement of engineering processes.
- Review and provide consultation on all technical materials for customer meetings.Â
- Responsible for managing the product and engineering organizational technical risk registers and developing any required mitigation plans for all key product technical risks.
- Facilitate capture of engineering lessons learned and ensure processes and design guidance tailored from industry best practices and key program learning.
- Lead technical trades and feasibility assessments for new product specifications, evaluate customer specifications, and lead technical proposal generation.
- Provide leadership to teams and guidance to less experienced staff members, mentor high potential technical staff.
- Responsible for the configuration management and control of product design BOMs and relevant technical data.
- Maintain an in depth understanding of innovations in spacecraft design and development to ensure York remains cutting edge.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering or a related field.
- 15+ years of spacecraft design, systems engineering, or other relevant experience with a minimum of 10 years in a technical leadership role.
- Possess excellent interpersonal skills, able to work effectively within the organization and convey decisions, direction, results, and conclusions in a manner that is meaningful.
- Extensive experience in spacecraft design, launch, and operation including experience at all phases of the development lifecycle.
- Experience in integrated software / hardware verification and test.
- Ability to gain a security clearance.
PREFERRED ADDITIONAL SKILLS
- Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering or a related field.
- Experience leading a government or military program.
- Contract and supplier negotiation experience is preferred.
- Previous Program Chief Engineer experience
