Job Responsibilities:

This position will work across MITRE, the United States Government, academia, and industrial partners in driving the research, development, and adoption of Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) technologies for MITRE sponsors.

Job responsibilities include:

  • Monitor emerging PNT technology trends across government, academia, and industry. Educate MITRE staff and sponsors on emerging technologies and their potential applications.
  • Lead efforts to further enhance MITRE's technical stature within the PNT community (e.g., increasing publications, chairing conference sessions, etc.).
  • Identify and develop work proposals aimed at injecting new technology and innovation into projects.
  • Engage across government, academia, and industry and develop external partnerships.
  • Support technical quality assessments and reviews of MITRE PNT products.
  • Identify opportunities for and lead/support development of new business, both internal to MITRE's FFRDCs and directly via MITRE Labs.
  • Work with other chief engineers and chief scientists, to support MITRE's research program (e.g., MIP). Identify and prioritize PNT research and development needs. Work in partnership with staff to develop research proposals.
  • Play a key technical role on one or more projects within MITRE's existing PNT work program.
  • Lead and/or support the development and implementation of MITRE's PNT strategy. Including monitoring activities and investments external to MITRE and integrating those into MITRE's strategy.
  • Lead L150 PNT core competency. Advocates for needed investments in equipment, facilities, technical training, etc.
  • Works in close partnership and coordination with MITRE PNT Leadership (i.e., PNT Fellows, L150 Management, Program Division Management and Project Leadership).

Required Qualifications:

  • Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance
  • BS, MS, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or related field
  • A minimum of 12 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 8 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD with 5 years' experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
  • Experience with US government systems and US government research ecosystem.
  • Strong technical background and research experience in one or more PNT technologies.
  • Willingness/passion for mentoring and developing technical staff
  • Ability to work with sponsors to understand their use cases and formulate a path forward. Excellent oral and written communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to build consensus and partnerships across industry, academia, and sponsors to advance state of the art.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to obtain a Top Secret or higher clearance
  • Publications in peer reviewed journals relevant to PNT
  • External presence relevant to PNT (e.g., conference events, articles, online interviews, social media)
  • Participation in, or deep familiarity with, key recent MITRE PNT efforts
