Clinical Development Engineer

Vicarious Surgical is hiring a Clinical Development Engineer to join our team in Waltham, MA. A CDE uses their in-depth knowledge of the surgical environment and medical technology to work with engineers and clinicians to define, develop, and validate the clinical function of new features and products.

You will help develop a variety of products, including robotic systems, visualization platforms, surgical instruments, and accessories that ultimately improve patient outcomes. This role will work closely with Product team members of Human Factors and UI/UX design and collaborate with Upstream Marketing, R&D Organization, Quality and Regulatory departments.

Responsibilities:

• Understand and represent the voice of clinicians and end-use stakeholders to identify and understand clinical needs
• Develop clinical product requirements for the platform and its subsystems by leading studies with KOLs in clinical and simulated use environments
• Use an analytical approach to identify potential product enhancements and new product ideas
• Assess and document clinical risks, and identify appropriate mitigations
• Develop and conduct clinical assessments evaluate the safety and efficacy of new products including planning, preparing test protocols, executing surgical lab tests and experiments, gathering clinical data, performing data analysis, and generating summary reports
• Support regulatory documentation and submissions
• Provide subject matter expertise to user manual and training documentation development
• Collaborate with product team and marketing partners to meet business needs
• Perform other duties as required to support the company’s overall strategy and goals

About You

• Minimum of B.S. in Biomedical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering with physiology exposure
• Minimum of 3+  years of experience in medical device industry
• Passion for working in environments with hands-on lab-based experiments and testing
• Experience working with surgeons in an operating room environment
• Fluent in surgical terminology, human anatomy, and surgical technique
• Excellent analytical capability and practical skills to develop test methods and draw conclusions
• Prior experience working within cross functional teams
• Effective communication skills
• Proven success recognizing critical issues and driving them to closure
• Ability to travel up to 20% of the time, internationally and domestic
