Job Description

The Cloud Architect will define the key concepts for the core, high-grow, and high-potential Rockwell Automation SaaS (Software as a Service) offerings. The main focus will be on system wide capabilities during the design, operation, and maintenance phases of the customer workflows from simple to geographically complex distributed automation systems. Excellent communication and collaboration skills are paramount in this role, since this position will work closely with a variety of engineering and business stakeholders and will be continually engaged with different teams across various business units.

Responsibilities:

• Actively provides expert knowledge of cloud and cloud/edge technologies. Be the go-to person in this area of expertise.
• Develops in-depth knowledge of company's existing infrastructure and cloud architecture and technology portfolio.
• Effectively participates in architecture and design discussions across different teams. Be able to share and defend architectural decisions to broad audience.
• Clearly communicates and conveys architecture and design concepts, both verbally and written. Also, able to learn and understand complex control system concepts.
• Contributes to or develops architectural designs and independently develops complex system designs that meet the requirements.
• Collaboratively works with a team of other system architects on artifacts and system solution backlogs to build architectural runway to support a large scale program.
• Produces and documents detailed architecture of cloud-based and cloud to edge capabilities.
• Actively functions in an agile-based environment. Considers tradeoffs between requirements, speed, cost, and reliability in the choice of a architecture and design approach.
• Ensures provided design is secure, scalable, efficient, and cost-optimized.
• Consults on or drives adoption across multiple teams and business units.
• Actively identifies and evaluates emerging cloud, cloud to edge and infrastructure technologies and implementation patterns. Stays abreast of industry trends.

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or similar technical discipline or equivalent experience
• Legal authorization to work in the US is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master's degree in computer science, computer engineering, software engineering, electrical engineering, or similar discipline
• Typically requires a minimum of 12 years of software development experience
• Software development and architecture experience with cloud and edge technologies
• Demonstrated experience in architecting modular software
• Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies
• Active knowledge of generic messaging and data streaming protocols like MQTT, Kafka, RabbitMQ
• Proficiency in TypeScript, Node.js, GraphQL
• Experience with industrial automation
