Cloud Data Engineer II

SUMMARY: The Cloud Data Engineer II position is a technical role that provides a unique opportunity to create innovations and transformational change leveraging cloud and big data technologies. The position will provide architecture, design, development, and project management leadership. The candidate will work with data stored in the Bank's Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud (as well as others) and will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the data infrastructure that powers the organization's cloud-based applications and services. This individual will work with a variety of data sources, including relational databases, NoSQL databases, and data warehouses, using a variety of tools and technologies to process and analyze data, including EMR, DMS, Redshift, S3, Glue, Athena, among others. He/she will work in a team environment, collaborating with other engineers, data scientists, and business analysts to design and build data-driven solutions. He/she will also work with software developers to integrate data-driven features into the company's applications and services. The ideal candidate will be an experienced data engineer with exposure to data wrangling practices and concepts who enjoys optimizing data systems and building them from the ground up. They must be self-directed and comfortable supporting the data needs of multiple teams, systems, and products. The candidate will have previous experience with data engineering teams and be excited by the prospect of optimizing or even re-designing, our company's data engineering architecture to support our next generation of products and data initiatives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties and special projects may be assigned.

• Collaborate with the Business Consumer product team and architecture group to help establish the customer data strategy
• Create and maintain optimal data pipeline architecture
• Focus on test driven design and results for repeatable and maintainable processes and tools
• Work with product and enterprise teams via both Agile and Waterfall Methodologies
• Provide mentorship, guidance, and technical expertise towards teams optimizing ETL/ELT processes and developing data solutions and platforms to solve complex scenarios in an agile manner
• Build cross-functional relationships with Data Scientists, Product Managers, and Software Engineers to understand data needs and deliver on those needs
• Drive the design, building, and launching of new data models and data pipelines in production
• Assist toward the development of data resources and support new product launches
• Assist toward the development of architectural design patterns that focus on data security, data operational excellence, and optimization of data systems performance & cost efficiency
• Craft and maintain efficient data pipeline architecture
• Identify, craft, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, etc.
• Assist toward designing, building, and maintaining the infrastructure required for efficient extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) of data from a wide variety of data sources using SQL and AWS 'big data' technologies
• Work with technical and non-technical stakeholders to assist with data-related technical issues and support their data infrastructure needs
• Work with the team to strive for clean and meaningful data, and greater functionality and flexibility within the team's data systems
• Maintain current knowledge of cloud trends & developments and act as an advisor to the Bank in reference to its cloud strategies
• Contribute to the development of cloud standards, best practices and organizational cloud capability
• Adheres to and complies with applicable, federal and state laws, regulations and guidance, including those related to anti-money laundering (i.e. Bank Secrecy Act, US PATRIOT Act, etc.).
• Adheres to Bank policies and procedures and completes required training.
• Identifies and reports suspicious activity.

EDUCATION

Bachelor's Degreein IT, engineering, etc or equivalent job experience required

EXPERIENCE

• 3+ years of experience in a data engineering role
• Experience supporting and working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment
• Experience building data pipelines, architectures, and data sets from raw, loosely structured data
• Experience building processes supporting data transformation, data structures, metadata, dependency, and workload management
• Data Engineering experience using the following software/tools:
• Proficiency with database platforms like Oracle, SQL, Postgres and MySQL
• Proficiency with cloud Data Warehouse platforms such as Redshift and Snowflake
• Proficiency with object-oriented/object function scripting languages: Python, Java, etc
• Experience with big data tools: Snowflake, Hadoop, Spark, etc
• Experience with data pipeline and workflow management tools: Informatica, Airflow, etc
• Experience with AWS cloud services: EC2, RDS, Redshift, Athena, EMR, Glue, S3
• Experience with Agile/Dev Ops methodologies and tools such as Jira and Confluence
• Experience working with Business Intelligence teams, Data Integration developers, Data Scientists, Analysts and DBAs to deliver well-architected and scalable Big Data & Analytics eco-system
• Experience with access federation and identity management

* Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, quickly changing environment. Ability to keep up with several projects at once and understand the impact of projects within a larger system
* Advanced working SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases, query authoring (SQL), as well as working familiarity with a variety of databases
* Solid grasp of advanced data warehouse concepts (Factless Fact tables, Temporal BI-Temporal models, etc.)
* Knowledge of foundation cloud infrastructure requirements such as Networking, Storage, and Hardware Optimization with hands-on experience with cloud Infrastructure (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
* Knowledge of information security/governance controls
* Knowledge of data protection best practices
