Job Summary

This Cloud Engineering position will report to the manager of Platform Engineering and will be responsible for operating, advancing, and automating both public and private cloud environments for Duke Energy.

You will be part of a fast-paced, entrepreneurial, energetic, and high performing team at the heart of the Duke Energy's digital transformation. This role will support the delivery of environments for cloud native application teams, working on applications and services to enhance customer and employee experiences. These services help our business partners seize the enormous growth opportunities that drive value for our company. You will have the opportunity to work with product owners and product teams across multiple IT areas, enabling them to deliver innovative products and experiences through a powerful digital-ready IT backbone.

You will be part of the Cloud & Automation Engineering team that also oversees the CI/CD, process automation, and test automation platforms, enabling automation throughout all of Duke Energy. This group is nimble and creative and will shape our technology roadmap. You will collaborate with technology peers to design, build and deploy the foundation of modern architecture and cloud computing at Duke Energy.

Responsibilities

  • Develop software platforms and frameworks, including platform automation and defining the process and cadence of upgrades & changes
  • Maintain services, monitor system health, and continually look for improvements
  • Scale systems sustainably using continuous deployment and automation
  • Research and implement best design principals in order to improve reliability and velocity
  • Work in an agile environment and engage in practices such as XP, test driven development
  • Works with technical staff to understand problems with software and resolves them.
  • Resolves customer complaints with software and responds to suggestions for improvements and enhancements from customers
  • Collaborate with other engineers, developers, designers, and product owners


Basic/Required Qualifications

  • Associate degree Information technology or other related discipline
  • In addition to required degree, two (2 years minimum of related work experience
  • In lieu of Associate degree AND two (2) years minimum of related work experience listed above, High School/GED AND three (3) years minimum required


Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with Linux, Windows, Active Directory, Infrastructure as Code, Networking, Data Center Infrastructure
  • Experience with Cloud platforms, Platform as a Service
  • Experience with BASH, Python, PowerShell, or other scripting language


Mobility Classification
  • Hybrid - Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable commute to the designated Duke Energy facility
