Cloud Engineer

OVERVIEW 

CTS Cloud Engineers are highly trained technical experts able to configure, deploy, manage or troubleshoot cloud services, servers, networks, or end-user systems on a wide variety of projects. CTS Cloud Engineers (CE's) would be considered Level 3 Network and/or Systems Engineers. 

A Cloud Engineer should not only have exceptional technical expertise, but also above average customer service skills to serve as an example of service excellence to others.  CE's must exhibit strong initiative and be capable of thriving in a demanding, deadline driven team environment. 

COMPSENSATION AND BENEFITS 

This is a level five role with the range for this role is $94,000 - $114,000. This role comes with our standard benefits. Two weeks of paid vacation, one week of sick leave, and 10 holidays and two floating holidays. We also provide health insurance and other ancillary benefits

RESPONSIBILITIES 

Technical Excellence:  More than most roles at CTS, this is primarily a technical position.  See technical requirements below for details.  A cloud engineer must be able to construct a reliable, working cloud platform and other systems from the various listed technologies, working independently. 

Project Ownership:  As a Cloud Engineer, you will own all technical and many logistical aspects of projects that you will participate on.  Successful CE's will work closely with others to ensure that all methodologies are adhered to and followed, projects complete on time and on budget, and issues are escalated promptly and brought to successful resolution. 

Systems Design and Integration: As a member of our senior Engineering team, you will participate in efforts to analyze and learn new technologies, test their efficacy and quality, document their functionality for other engineers and L1/L2 support personnel, and ultimately deploy it to clients. 

Service Excellence:  You will work with CTS clients and will be required to actively demonstrate our firm's commitment to exceptional client service and communication as our representative. 

Rigorous Documentation Detail:  As a builder of new systems on a team that must also maintain them, you must develop and strictly adhere to practices for documentation and knowledge transfer that enable the firm to render excellent support effectively and consistently on those systems. 

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS 

A high degree of proficiency in the below or similar technologies is required for CE's: 

Cloud Technologies: Proven record of accomplishment of defining standards and implementation, migration between, and identity management and synchronization between on-premise environments and the following cloud systems 

• Azure - Identity, Security, Compute, Networking, Storage, Endpoint Management, Backup 
• Microsoft 365 Administration – Exchange, SharePoint, Teams 
• AWS – Compute, Storage, Networking 
• Google – Workspace, Compute 

Networking: Deep understanding of networking theory and standards and proven record of accomplishment of deploying and supporting networks in the cloud, on-premises and between. 

• Network Theory & Protocols – Routing, switching, subnetting, LAN, WAN, SDWAN, VPN, Wi-Fi 5/6, WiFi Enterprise Authentication 
• Firewalls/UTM - SonicWall TZ/NSa, Cisco Meraki MX, Cisco Firepower/ASA, Juniper SRX, Palo Alto PA,  
• Switching – Juniper EX, Cisco Catalyst 9000 series, Cisco Meraki MS, Ubiquiti Unifi, HPE Aruba,  Extreme Networks (formerly Aerohive), Netgear 
• Wireless – Juniper Mist, Cisco Catalyst 9000 Wireless, Cisco Meraki MR, Ubiquiti Unifi, HPE Aruba, Extreme Networks (formerly Aerohive) 

Server and Systems Technologies: Understanding on-premise technologies, how they interact with the cloud environment and how to migrate from to another. 

• Hardware – HPE Proliant, Dell PowerEdge 
• Virtualization - VMWare vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V, Proxmox, KVM 
• Operating Systems - Windows Server 2008-2022, Linux Ubuntu/CentOS 
• Hybrid Environments – On-prem AD + AzureAD, On-prem Exchange + MS 365 
• Business Continuity / Disaster Recovery – Acronis Cyber Cloud, Veeam, Zerto 
• Communication/Collaboration – Grandstream UCM, FreePBX, Cisco UCM, Microsoft Teams, GoTo Connect, RingCentral 

MSP Systems: Experience using MSP tools for time tracking, documentation, communication with internal and external stakeholder, and managing and monitoring infrastructure and endpoints. 

• PSA Tools- ConnectWise Manage, ServiceNow, Kaseya BMS, Autotask PSA 
• RMM Tools – Connectwise RMM/Automate/Control, Kaseya VSA, N-Able 
• MDM tools – Intune, Addigy, Mosyle, and Jamf, VMWare Workspace One 
• Network Monitoring – PRTG, LogicMonitor, Auvik 

End-User Technologies: Keen understanding of how end users devices work, how end users utilize their devices and technologies and how changes affect the end user experience. 

• Operating Systems – Windows 10/11, MacOS 10.15+, iOS 13+, Android 11+, ChromeOS 
• Workstations – Microsoft Surface, Lenovo ThinkPad, Dell Latitude, Apple MacBook, Chromebooks 
• Tablets – Apple iPad, Lenovo Tab, Amazon Fire 
• Display – Epson PowerLIte Projectors, Promethean Interactive Flat Panel, ScreenCloud Digital Signage 
• Printing – Xerox, HP LaserJet, Konica Minolta, Toshiba e-Studio, Ricoh, Kyocera 

QUALIFICATIONS WE SEEK 

• 6+ years of proven excellence as an IT professional, with 2 or more years in a lead/escalation role 
• 3+ years leading implementation of cloud technologies as referenced above 
• 2+ years of MSP experience strongly preferred 
• Exceptional critical thinking and troubleshooting skills to rapidly identify and resolve problems under pressure. 
• Detailed oriented technical writing skills, ensuring 
• Self-motivated, results-driven, and highly organized. 
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to switch between technical and layman language depending on the audience 

HOURS AND LOCATION 

Cloud Engineers normally work Monday through Friday, 9am-5:30PM. Some night and/or weekend work may at times be required, as well as infrequent travel as CTS expands nationally. 

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS 

BA / BS required; technical degree preferred, advanced degree and active Microsoft, VMWare, SonicWall, Cisco or any other technology listed above certifications are a plus.
