Introduction
The IBM Research I/T organization provides prototype, pilot and production I/T services to the Research organization and to select partner organizations and projects. The organization is looking for a cloud engineer to join the team. Working with both local and global teams will be an integral part of the job and applicants should have strong teaming and communication skills.
Your Role and Responsibilities
This is for a 2025 summer internship with the following start dates: May - August or June - September for quarter system schools.
The job will entail direct, hands-on interaction with a variety of general systems, building cloud environments for users, securing those environments and instrumenting them to ensure quality service for our researchers. Since integration of components and enhancing existing services will be a key focus area, the person should be adept at troubleshooting and analysis.

Candidates should be comfortable with various levels of the solution lifecycle such as, planning new solutions, deployment, integration, enhancing existing services and operational support.
Key Responsibilities:
- Project Development: Contribute to various cloud-based projects, from initial design to deployment and maintenance.
- Technology Exploration: Research and experiment with emerging cloud technologies and tools to stay updated with industry trends.
- Code Development: Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code using programming languages like Python, Java, or JavaScript.
- Collaboration: Work closely with a team of experienced developers to learn and contribute to collaborative projects.
- Problem-Solving: Identify and troubleshoot technical issues related to cloud infrastructure and applications.
- Documentation: Create clear and concise documentation for projects and processes.
- Mentorship: Benefit from guidance and mentorship from experienced cloud engineers.
Required Technical and Professional Expertise
Required Skills:
- Candidate should be pursuing a Bachelor's Degree.
- Strong understanding of cloud computing concepts (e.g., IaaS, PaaS, SaaS).
- Proficiency in at least one programming language.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and documentation skills.
