Requirements: 

7-15 years of proven commercial real estate transaction experience working as a CMBS underwriter for a commercial or investment bank or specialty finance company.  Experience with both fixed-rate and floating-rate loans across all asset classes as well as subordinate debt (B notes, junior participations and mezz loans) is required.

The CMBS Loan Underwriter will have the following duties and responsibilities, including but not limited to:

• Assist in all facets of the CMBS origination process, including evaluating prospective loan transactions, underwriting loans and liaising with credit, senior management and securitization counterparts including rating agencies and b-buyers.
• Perform thorough due diligence including credit, market, property, sponsor and financial diligence, identifying specific merits, risks and mitigants for each transaction.
• Manage the due diligence process and be the driving force to work through the approval and closing processes, communicating and coordinating with, all parties to the transaction, both internal and external.
• The candidate must be able to manage multiple parties and their expectations as well as handle multiple transactions at any given time.
• Preparation of screening memos, credit memos, investor summaries and underwriting models.

Skills & Knowledge

• Extensive US Commercial Real Estate market knowledge and experience underwriting the major asset classes including multifamily, retail, office, industrial and hospitality. Strong understanding of rating agency underwriting preferred.
• Possess excellent analytical, communication, interpersonal, organizational and multi-tasking skills.
• Strong understanding of complex financial and legal structures.
• Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize projects, complete multiple tasks on schedule and problem solve when issues arise.
• Ability to excel in a fast-paced, team orientated environment and deliver under tight deadlines.
• Strong work ethic, desire to succeed and an entrepreneurial spirit.
• Must be proficient in Microsoft Office and Argus.
• Must be detail-oriented.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in finance or a related discipline. A master’s degree is preferred.

Travel

May be required; driver’s license required.
