Job Description:

The Coaxial Splicer I is responsible for the installation/splicing of coaxial active / passive devices, forward & return sweep, and troubleshooting of the Hybrid Fiber Coax (HFC) network. He/she must have the ability to understand and interpret HFC design maps. The individual will need to properly and safely use tools and equipment required to perform coaxial splicing duties, including required safety equipment.

Major Tasks

  • With a basic level of competency, installs and repairs equipment within the HFC distribution system, including customer premises.
  • With a basic level of competency, splices overhead/underground coaxial cables including assembling the equipment per the design print. This Includes the proper cutting and preparation of the required coaxial cable prior to splicing.
  • With a basic level of competency, responds to issues identified by our performance tools. This includes identifying, troubleshooting and resolving any associated issues, as well as referring more complex resolution to higher level staff.
  • Performs basic troubleshooting activities to repair / resolve coaxial active / passive equipment and coaxial cable issues.
  • Performs basic tap and end-of-line radio frequency (RF) level checks to identify and verify tap RF levels meet Cox' specifications.
  • Utilizes test equipment and other diagnostic tools (e.g., notebook computers, digitized system maps) to resolve basic RF level problems.
  • Utilizes coaxial splicing hand tools in a safe and appropriate manner.
  • Ensures all needed/issued tools, parts, material and equipment are available at the job site and reconciled daily to ensure accurate material usage
  • May be called upon to perform daily monitoring and documentation for CLI compliance with FCC requirements, which could include repairing leakage to resolve problems.
  • Works various shifts, including nights and weekends, when necessary.
  • Completes daily production reports and provides status information throughout the day.
  • Marks-up maps, tracks work hours and completes "as-built maps" for areas built.
  • Operates vehicle and/or bucket lift safely, following all safety and traffic regulations.

Minimum

  • 2 years' experience in coaxial knowledge of and experience with various coaxial splicing tools and equipment.
  • Basic understanding of AC/DC electricity and RF designs.
  • Ability to read and interpret HFC network design prints at a basic level.
  • Required to lift a minimum of 75 lbs.
  • Capable of handling and working off a 32' extension ladder in various conditions and heights, including the removal and mounting of the ladder on the vehicle rack.
  • Required to climb utility poles, use ladders, and utilize truck-mounted lift bucket to complete daily assignments as needed.
  • Required to wear all required safety equipment.
  • Reads and interprets system prints, including system design maps and digital drawings, at a basic level.

Preferred

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience in telecommunication industry desired
