About you

The Coding Educator is Responsible for providing on-going support and education of providers, and coding professionals with regard to proper documentation and coding for services. Build strong working relationships with all we serve within the assigned markets; present documentation and coding educational and training sessions; develop training materials relative to proper medical record documentation and coding; and assist with investigation of and implementation and monitoring of coding and charging activities. Establishes and manages integrated training and development strategies and programs for providers and medical coders. Develops and implements strategic needs analyses and training plans for the organization; coordinates and evaluates curriculum development and conducts the preparation and delivery of training. Provides guidance and leadership to coding and billing management in the implementation and administration of effective systems, processes, and procedures. Utilize resources such as: various benchmark data, compliance audits, and internal-conducted audits to identify and investigate coding and documentation improvement opportunities.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  1. Supports and implements the CareMax vision, mission, and values.
  2.  Determines priorities and method of completing daily workload to ensure that all responsibilities are carried out in a timely manner.
  3. Provides consultation, leadership, and expertise to internal management in the planning, implementation, and delivery of coding education.
  4. Effectively communicates with providers to clarify diagnoses, procedure coding and documentation requirements, including proper sequencing.
  5. Provides a high level of technical education and serves as a subject matter specialist regarding coding and documentation.
  6. Supports and educates team members about coding best practices and procedures to meet compliance and regulatory requirements.
  7. Assesses the educational needs of coding staff, management, and providers and develops programs or researches educational resources to meet those needs.
  8. Develops all training materials and coding aids for both formal training and use by coders in daily work.
  9. Identifies and evaluates innovative educational methodology that may be appropriate for the targeted audience; incorporates new methodology as appropriate to enhance and update the effectiveness of education and skills development programs.
  10. Actively works on site at the clinics conducting specialized training in coding and related billing issues; helps identify and document appropriate codes and procedures for billing, as appropriate.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  1. High school diploma or GED and completion of CPC training; at least 7 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  2. Minimum three years of coding, billing and audit/chart review experience is required.
  3. Certified Professional Coder (CPC)-required
  4. Certified Professional Medical Auditor (CPMA) -required
  5. Certified Risk Adjustment Coder (CRC)-required
  6. Certified Documentation Expert Outpatient (CDEO)-required
  7. Certified Professional Coder -Instructor (CPC-I)-preferred
  8. Must demonstrate a clear understanding of medical terminology, Current Procedural Terminology (CPT), Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) and International Classification of Disease (ICD) coding.
  9.  Medicare Advantage, Medicaid, and outpatient coding experience or equivalent.
  10. Working knowledge of billing for a multi-discipline practice and general computer systems required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

    1. Ability to read and interpret documents, such as policies and procedures, benefits information, benefit surveys, board minutes, routine mail, simple contracts, and procedure manuals.
    2. Ability to compose routine reports and correspondence.
    3. Ability to speak effectively with employees, and management.
    4. Strong oral communication skills and the ability to deliver presentations to large groups.
    5. Advanced verbal and written communication skills.
    6. Work is performed in normal business office environment, national travel required.
