Combat Designer
Job Description
Intrepid Studios is looking for a passionate, experienced and talented Combat Designer, interested in creating brand new worlds with a brand new IP. Our Combat Designer would be a person who really loves Massively Multiplayer combat, whether that combat is player-vs-player or player-vs-environment. They have a deep understanding of how to communicate artfully the feel and flow of combat to players. They have a mastery of third person action combat as well as the more traditional MMO combat modes. They must work well with others, enjoy collaboration, and be comfortable receiving, acting on, and supplying constructively critical feedback. Most importantly, they must live and breathe MMOs.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the leads and game team to create fun and interesting gameplay experiences
- The ability to script complex ability behavior
- Collaborate with animators to create interesting visual stories
- Collaborate with effects artists to create powerful and exciting gameplay moments
- Adjust and refine Character, Controls and Camera
- Design and wireframe tools to make ability creation more efficient
- Write clear and concise design documentation
- Mentor and guide junior designers along their path toward mastery
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in the industry as a game designer, preferably in projects that involve 3rd person action combat
- Ability to both conceptualize, analyze and implement game ideas using various tools and technology
- Excellent understanding of video game culture and knowledge of games
- Excellent knowledge of Unreal 4Experience with MMOs or multiplayer games generally
- Leadership experience a plus
- High level of creativity

The Legal Bits:
We offer competitive pay based on market standards plus a significant annual bonus structure. The base salary for this role is between $66,000 - $99,000, depending on skills and experience. Individual compensation decisions are based on a number of factors, including experience level, skillset, and balancing internal equity relative to peers at the company. We expect the majority of the candidates who are offered roles at our company to fall throughout the range based on these factors.
