About the Role

As Commercial Counsel you will lead Thumbtack’s commercial contracts practice. You will work closely with the procurement team and senior members of the legal team to make sure the business runs a streamlined procurement process and manages risk wisely for vendor, partnership, and sales contracts.  This role will be charged with managing and developing best in class practices for commercial contracts.

Responsibilities

• Conduct legal review of commercial contracts, including vendor, partnership and sales contracts.
• Negotiate, and advise business leaders on, key commercial terms. 
• Develop best-in-class commercial contracts practice by developing a broad set of form agreements using Thumbtack’s contract lifecycle management tool’s automate and AI capabilities.
• Work with wide array of business partners ranging from finance, product, sales, marketplace trust and safety or other functional teams to understand issues, assess risk, balance needs of business and give clear, concise, move-forward legal advice.

What you'll need

• JD or LLB and more than 4 years of legal experience, preferably including experience with an in-house legal department.
• Experience drafting and negotiating complex contracts.
• Strong problem-solving, strategic thinking, and written/verbal communication skills.
• Excellent judgment and ability to balance risk and productivity in a business environment.
• Independently motivated and fiercely dedicated to client service. 

Bonus points if you have

• Experience with advertising and similar marketing agreements.
• Experience with SAAS contracts.
• Familiarity with contract lifecycle management tools, especially Ironclad.
• Willingness to learn new areas of law and triage issues with which you’re not familiar.

For candidates living in San Francisco / Bay Area, New York City, or Seattle metros, the expected salary range for the role is currently $180,000 - $245,000. Actual offered salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as calibrated job level, qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role.

For candidates living in all other US locations, the expected salary range for this role is currently $153,000 - $208,250. Actual offered salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as calibrated job level, qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role.
