We are a scrappy group of passionate practitioners and are looking to add a Communication Designer to our Chicago-based Innovation Studio.

About the role:

Communication Designers at Relish work closely with our Creative Lead on a variety of visual design needs from naming and developing brands for new business concepts, creating compelling diagrams and illustrations to communicate new ideas, and building presentations and pitch decks for executive level audiences. This work often serves stakeholders like our parent company’s executives, our investment team, our accelerator program, and various ventures/startups. This role is best for someone who is a curious, creative, and visual-thinker who can leverage their design and storytelling skills to communicate research findings and illustrate future experiences, concepts, services and systems. An ideal candidate will know how to push visual boundaries across brands, always bringing new ideas to the table, without sacrificing clarity of message.

Your day to day could be a combination of any of the following:

  • Visualizing qualitative and quantitative information into diagrams and infographics
  • Communicating new insights and ideas through wireframes, illustrations, presentations, print pieces, and videos
  • Developing the visual identity, brand strategy, and language for new offerings and brands
  • Creating engaging and informative content for ventures and new businesses
  • Supporting project teams with visual direction and storytelling guidance for check ins and deliverables
  • Designing and developing executive level communication materials: Google slide presentations, decks, corporate communications
  • Opportunity to mentor junior designers and interns

You should apply if you have:

  • A bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent degree in visual design
  • 3-5 years of professional work experience in design-related field applying visual design skills
  • Ability to interpret and critically think through content and turn it into inspiring visual stories
  • Excellent communication and storytelling skills (written, verbal, and visual)
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, Google Suite, Figma, Miro and ability to learn new software as needed
  • Experience working in multiple mediums preferred, such as video, web, and print
  • Portfolio of work demonstrating strong capabilities in composition, typography, hierarchy, color, information design, illustration and presentation
  • Comfort with ambiguity and ability to thrive in a self-directed culture
  • Openness to learn from diverse perspectives and collaborate on multidisciplinary teams
  • Motivation to solve end-user challenges, meet stakeholder needs, and deliver on business goals
  • Desire to work on a lot of different types and sizes of projects
  • Aspiration to work in a startup environment where we move fast
  • Willingness to ask questions
  • A learner mindset - you are always interested in expanding your knowledge and perspective
  • Passion for the restaurant industry and success

You will thrive if you align with our values:

  • Our team is inclusive, passionate, resourceful, and dependable. We are a team of problem solvers who have super powers in strategy, research, design, and communication. We prioritize flexibility and collaboration in our work. We expect our team members to feel accountability for all parts of the business, not just their discipline.
