Communications Coordinator

Location: Omaha, NE

The Communications Coordinator partners with the communications team to support day-to-day responsibilities, including media monitoring, media messaging, communication strategies, and relationship development and performs other duties as assigned. The position will play a key role in recommending, developing, and executing communication strategies. The Communications Coordinator reports to the Communications Manager.

Essential functions include but are not limited to:

  • Monitor relevant media coverage daily
  • Assist in identifying frequent opportunities for Green Plains coverage in news media
  • Assist in crafting pitches for interviews with the CEO to media (print and broadcast) regularly
  • Work closely with the Communications Manager and Investor Relations to develop a media relations communication strategy and assist in the execution of the strategy
  • Collaborate with Investor Relations on drafting and distributing press releases
  • Develop and implement internal communication plans
  • Develop and implement intranet engagement strategies
  • Develop and distribute content on the company intranet
  • Assist in developing content for social, video, and print communication campaigns in partnership with Corporate Marketing Manager
  • Support the Corporate Marketing Manager in monitoring the impact of social media and marketing campaigns
  • Coordinate events, including press conferences, community events, and customer events
  • Partner with HR and business divisions to provide advertisements to local media
  • Collaborate with community organizations and employees to identify meaningful sponsorship opportunities and coordinate with local-level or corporate committees
  • Partner with Investor Relations and Government Relations to ensure messaging is aligned and in compliance with state and federal law at all times
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, Communications, or a related area required
  • Demonstrated experience assisting in public relations/community relations/marketing for a corporation
  • Self-starter with keen attention to detail and deadlines as well as the ability to multi-task
  • Ability to travel up to 20%
  • Exceptional creative writing ability

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong news sense and ability to determine the relevancy of the company in the news cycle
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to interface with all levels of the organization including Senior Leadership
  • Strong project management and organizational skills
  • Exceptional storytelling abilities

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

  • Valid driver's license and able to travel
  • Ability to meet physical demands of the job includes but is not limited to frequent sitting, standing, frequent computer use, some lifting or moving up to 20 lbs.
  • Ability to work after hours/weekends and on call as needed
