What you will do

The media relations intern supports the Johnson Controls media team in its mission to foster and maintain a positive brand image with media stakeholders and other third-party influencers. This person will be responsible for developing and supporting the full range of media engagement activities that require skills in conducting research, writing for a variety of channels and reporting metrics. The media relations intern will partner with other marketing communications functions such as internal & employee communications, social media, marketing and brand communications to support a variety of business areas across the company and worldwide.

How you will do it

  • 10/12 Week Internship starting 5/30/2023
  • Writing for various media channels including news releases, social media posts and other content focused on stories to promote Johnson Controls leadership in creating smart, healthy and sustainable buildings.
  • Updating or creating talking points, briefing documents, bios and other support materials
  • Developing media lists, pitching and corresponding with media
  • Writing media recap reports
  • Assisting with media metrics and reports
  • Collaborating with the team in problem solving and strategic discussions

What we look for

Required Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree program pursuing public relations, journalism, communications, media studies, marketing, English, business, political science or similar
  • Hour commitment: 20 hours minimum per week
  • Interest in news media or enjoy following along with the media cycle
  • Strong grammar skills and verbal communication (familiarity with AP Style a plus)
  • Passion for creative thinking, strategy and pushing the boundaries
  • Strong organization skills, time management and attention to detail
  • Ability to multitask and handle a fast-paced environment
  • Serve as a proactive thinker, engaged team member and quick learner
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite programs
  • U.S. citizen or legal right to work in the U.S
