Communication Specialist (Marketing & Strategic Support)

** You will be working in a hybrid environment with 12 days on average per month in-person at the office.

** You MUST have 3-5 years previous experience working in a communications or media environment.

Travel will also be required across Georgia!

The Communication Specialist will be a part of the newly formed Marketing & Strategic Support team within the Customer Strategy and Solutions (CS&S) organization. This person will provide strategic communication support across the CS&S organization to be data-driven, technology forward, and customer-focused to equip our employees with the information they need to be advocates of Georgia Power, CS&S, and our portfolio of solutions. Additionally, the Communication Specialist serves as a strategic business partner to internal business clients and is responsible for providing the communication planning and implementation support necessary to advance marketing, functional, strategic and operational goals. This position reports to the Communications Manager.

The successful candidate will be a strong writer who develops issue- or event-specific communication plans for both internal and external audiences and ensures client communications align with company CS&S organizational strategy and branding. This person must be able to understand complex business messages and deliver them to broad internal audiences in an easy-to-comprehend and effective fashion.

The candidate will work closely with internal clients, product owners and region contacts to provide support on key initiatives; organize internal and external events as needed; create messaging for multiple channels, including video, social media platforms and contribute extensive editorial assistance to online publications.

The role requires strong writing, copy-editing and PowerPoint presentation skills; the ability to simultaneously handle multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.

The position will require some travel across Georgia.

Qualifications:

• 3-5 years previous experience working in a communications or media environment required

• Experience with the electric utility industry a plus

• Experience supporting executive-level communications preferred

• Related undergraduate degree (journalism/mass communications/marketing or public relations) preferred

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate complex ideas simply and meaningfully to audiences of diverse backgrounds and levels across the organization

• Highly effective interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across an organization

• Demonstrated ability to write for a wide variety of forms - speeches, talking points, Circuit, presentations, print publications, websites, video, correspondence, magazines, fact sheets, Q&As, customer and other business communications, etc.

• Successful experience planning, project managing and implementing communication projects.

• Highly motivated, ability to assess communication needs and drive appropriate responses with minimal supervision

• Ability to handle tight deadlines, multiple tasks and shifting priorities.

• Strong listening, creative thinking, problem-solving and relationship-building skills.

• Takes initiative, ownership of assignments and personal responsibility

• Ability to maintain confidentiality

• Expertise in Microsoft Office: Word and PowerPoint and Outlook are required; working knowledge of Excel is a plus

• Technical experience with SharePoint, HTML, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat and Adobe InDesign a plus

• Willingness and ability to travel

• Ability to speak and write in multiple languages would be a plus (English, Spanish, etc.)

Principle Responsibilities:

• Serve as a CS&S Communication point of contact for internal clients

• Identifies and develops story ideas that highlight the company's focus areas, values and culture

• Collaborate with department contacts to create high-quality content, including speeches, talking points, presentations, video scripts and other forms of communication in support of company goals and business unit priorities

• Write stories, create graphics and presentations that illustrate our culture

• Create high quality, compelling communications for a variety of channels (email, video, intranet sites, Circuit)

• Interact, inform and influence clients on proper and impactful messaging

• Ability to understand complex business issues and deliver messages to internal audiences in an easy-to-comprehend and effective manner

• Research, write, edit, proofread, produce and distribute print, online and video communications to targeted audiences internally and externally

• Edit the work of other departments that prepare executive materials in draft

• Proactively partner with media relations to identify media opportunities and garner positive coverage throughout the state

• Work with CS&S senior leadership (SVP, directors and managers) to collect and support communication initiatives

• Ensure all communication materials meet company standards and explore new ways to support business units and engage employees
