Who you are:

We're looking for a creative, strategic communicator to help us plan and run effective internal and external communication campaigns through various platforms and channels, including social media, advertising, traditional media and digital platforms.

The Communications Specialist will develop and deliver communications to various audiences to provide helpful information, drive company initiatives and increase customer satisfaction. In partnership with many internal stakeholders, this individual will help create and articulate key messages through end-to-end communication plans to meet business partner and customer needs.

What you'll do:

You must be comfortable in a fast-paced environment, able to operate and coordinate across multiple internal and external teams and context-switch with skill. You will test and evaluate different channels and messages, with a focus on measurement of performance, effectiveness and optimization.

You will have the opportunity to work with digital and traditional media, ensuring that our brand messages are carried through each channel. You will also partner with our internal teams to understand their goals and ways Public Relations can support their efforts, adjusting channels and messages accordingly. Success is measured in effective engagement.

What you'll bring:

  • At least 5 years communications (public relations, marketing, corporate communication) experience.
  • Experience in governmental, political, environmental and/or regulatory communications a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead the strategic vision and implementation of dynamic external campaigns.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and executive presence. A dynamic professional style and the ability to project a confident leadership image externally and internally.
  • Highly collaborative with an understanding of how to partner cross-functionally.
  • Proven experience in multimedia communications.
  • Strong writing skills that can distill technical or complex content and make it relevant to key stakeholders and customers.
  • Ability to find or create opportunities to highlight the impact of our work.
  • A proven ability to manage and lead through influence.
  • Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Marketing, Communications, or related discipline. Advanced degrees, relevant executive education and industry designations are a plus.

Position Details: This position will be reporting to the Brand Director at the Alabama Power Corporate (APC) Headquarters in Birmingham, AL. The successful candidate will report to the APC Headquarters at least three times a week.
