Join the JAMA team as a Communications Specialist II. This is a hybrid position reporting into our Chicago, IL office, requiring 2 days a week in the office.

As a Communications Specialist II you will support JAMA Network communications activities. Responsibilities include assisting with theannual communication plan, drafting communications, helping with mediarelations, and the administration of social media accounts for the JAMA Networkto engage audiences for our scientific publications, adhering to our policiesand procedures. Work with the JAMA media relations and social media team toensure that all communication and social media activities support the JAMANetwork's digital objectives and the prominence of our journals.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Communications and Media Relations support

  • Assist in the annual communications plan development and support implementation of communications priorities
  • Help draft or edit and assist in producing specific communications for a variety of channels (i.e., web, digital, online document, or presentations); monitor, track, and report effectiveness of communications, such as analytics, open rates, etc.
  • Perform administrative tasks associated with the planning, development, and execution of communications
  • Plan and execute projects associated with creative content, such as coordinate a photo shoot with a professional photographer to get network leadership photos to include in communications
  • Support internal communications aimed at engaging JAMA staff on the activities of the JAMA Network
  • Stay up to date on industry trends and suggest recommendations for adjustments to communications strategies and practices
  • Collect media inquiries and maintain relationships with journalists and other members of the press
  • Support planning of press conferences and other promotional events to help keep the organization top of mind
  • Perform outreach to press outlets, magazines, influencers and to help grow brand
  • Collaborate with JAMA Network Publishing to ensure appropriate coordination and alignment of activities

Maintain social media accounts for the JAMA Network

  • Create, prioritize and promote original and related third-party content on social media platforms or via third-party tools according to agreed-upon social media guidance and best practices, brand and journalistic standards, the JAMA Network's social media policies and procedures, and deadlines/goals established by publishing dates, events, campaigns, etc.
  • Contribute ideas to the planning, execution, evaluation, and reporting of social media plans for the JAMA Network
  • Stay abreast of social network, social media strategy, scholarly publishing, industry and other job-related and company-related advances, modifications, trends, etc.

May include other responsibilities as assigned

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. College degree or equivalent experience
  2. Minimum 3+ years of experience in communications or marketing
  3. Working knowledge of tools such as Facebook, Google+, Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Twitter, YouTube, Sprinklr, Google Sheets, Microsoft Excel, and Google Analytics
  4. Knowledge of Associated Press (AP) writing style
  5. Experience drafting communications for a variety of audiences
  6. Working knowledge and use of social media best practices in curating, writing, publishing, listening/monitoring, engaging, and reporting
  7. Written and verbal communication skills including ability to communicate to external clinical and general audiences
  8. Demonstrated ability to administer social media accounts, including manage time and tasks effectively and efficiently; identify, curate and schedule appropriate content at optimal dates and times; create trackable, shortened URLs for each piece of curated content; monitor social media engagements and identify opportunities for responses
  9. Strong time management skills
