Community Engagement Specialist

The communications specialist supports Avnet's external communications and community engagement activity, including driving strategic programs with nonprofits/NGOs, managing employee volunteerism, gathering stories and publicizing opportunities internally and externally. This role is responsible for global programs that are executed regionally. The ideal candidate will be a strong collaborator with multiple community and business stakeholders, including U.S.-based nonprofits, regional and business unit PR and marketing leads and corporate PR teams. This position is primarily responsible for activities in Phoenix and within the Americas region, but global collaboration across time zones is required. This position is based in Avnet's corporate headquarters.

Principal responsibilities:

• Executes programs that meet community needs in Avnet's focus areas
• Organizes and implements volunteer events in the communities where employees live and work
• Manages quarterly grant-making efforts with Charitable Governance Committee in the Americas according to budget and supports parallel efforts in regions
• Creates and distributes content, both internally and externally, that supports Avnet's brand and communicates the company's impact
• Builds and maintains relationships with both employees and members of the community in Avnet's key locations in the U.S. and internationally
• Drives best practices and standards in community engagement and giving with regional counterparts and leadership
• Supports Avnet's Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) communications efforts by assisting with the annual sustainability report and external website content

Required skills/experience:

• 3-5 years experience in communications or marketing, either in in-house or agency settings (technology experience preferred)
• Demonstrated project management experience
• Ability to build relationships across business units and cultures, virtually and in-person
• Sound judgment and commitment to integrity
• Strong time and task management, operates with a sense of urgency and values timeliness
• Writing, editing and proofreading
• Ability to coordinate and align feedback from internal stakeholders
• Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects, working across time zones as needed
