The Job Details are as follows:

The Community Manager helps community members (libraries that have subscribed to OCLC Services) maximize their use of OCLC services through a variety of activities that support peer-to-peer knowledge transfer, disseminating of effective use/ library best practices and collaboration with OCLC product teams on product improvements. Activities include: Championing both product and user communities, Coordinating community events both in-person and online, working the product teams to respond to product improvement ideas, updating information and roadmaps on the OCLC Community Center, coordinating communication around product releases, identifying and cultivating community leadership, working with and across other OCLC departments to ensure that community members feel valued and an active with the OCLC cooperative. This position develops and implements strategies that optimize staff expertise and member engagement activities to foster dialog, build advocacy and increase participation in the OCLC cooperative.

The Job Details are as follows:

The OCLC Community Center is the online site for OCLC product users working at institutions worldwide to connect with each other and OCLC. The Community Manager is responsible for creating engagement opportunities for their designated product communities, managing the related online community spaces within the Community Center, and fostering collaboration between community members and with OCLC to improve the delivery of services to library users.

Main job purpose and Responsibilities

The Community Manager helps library staff maximize their use of OCLC services through a variety of activities that support peer-to-peer knowledge transfer, sharing of effective use workflows/library best practices, and collaboration with OCLC product teams on product improvements. Job responsibilities generally fall within three areas: community engagement, knowledge creation and sharing of best practices, and development and support of community leadership.

Community engagement
  • Own the development, coordination, promotion, and production of community events with internal and external presenters in a variety of formats (e.g., webinars, in-person, recorded, etc.)
  • Aggregate the collective customer voice through enhancement suggestions submitted in the Community Center and communicate with product, support, developers, and other teams to ensure customer feedback is shared
  • Coordinate product response activity around submitted enhancement suggestions, ensuring that all ideas and suggestions are reviewed and responded to
  • Work with product and marketing to write and post news, event promotions, and other communications to Community Center news boards and in other channels as appropriate
  • Moderate discussion boards to ensure OCLC is aware of community questions and feedback and responds as needed in a timely manner
  • Update content on the Community Center platform where community members interact with each other and OCLC


Knowledge creation and sharing of best practices
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing among community members to support effective use of OCLC products and services
  • Capture and post user-generated workflow videos, presentations, and documentation of OCLC products and services
  • Coordinate with other internal OCLC teams to identify and provide updates on items of interest to communities managed
  • Identify opportunities to showcase libraries that have unique stories to share
  • Coordinate in-person presentations at conferences where community members and OCLC staff can collaborate and deliver best practices and new ideas


Development and support of community leadership
  • Identify and recruit effective leaders within product communities that will help drive and foster community collaboration
  • Develop and implement leadership programs that meet the needs of participants and their communities
  • Meet regularly with community leadership teams to better understand community needs and develop new approaches to meet those needs


Qualifications

Knowledge of worldwide library environments and their workflows, systems used, and communities served

Experience coordinating synchronous and asynchronous engagement activities with communities

Strong communication skills with the ability to tailor communications based on audience

Ability to articulate library and member needs and issues to OCLC staff

Comfort with virtual engagement tools used to facilitate online event management, webinars, polls, and discussions

Familiarity with online content management systems used for creating, publishing, and managing web content

Preferred Qualifications

Master's Degree in Library Science or equivalent experience

Knowledge of OCLC products, membership demographics, user communities, and research and development initiatives

Participation in professional library associations including speaking responsibilities

Experience organizing virtual and/or in-person events with multiple speakers
