Job Overview:

The Disaster Response group of Aptim is seeking a highly experienced and talented Community Outreach Specialist to join an existing Program team in Louisiana to support Hurricane Ida Disaster response efforts. The Community Outreach Specialist will provide support and aid in communication to disaster survivors to aid in participation in disaster assistance.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities May Include:

  • Makes/receives high volume phone calls.
  • Provide intake support to callers to determine eligibility and guidance on appropriate recovery resources as related to the Program.
  • Provide direct case work with survivors to support their recovery plans.
  • Assists disaster survivors with processes, policies, procedures, and other Program information in a way that they can understand.
  • Supports disaster survivors by scheduling Program related individual appointments or group meetings to provide information on disaster assistance services, requirements and procedures.
  • Follows Program plans or objectives.
  • Traveling to various disaster areas may be required
  • Distributes Program outreach media, such as brochures or web sites, to communicate program offerings, procedures, or objectives to meet goals or standards of the Program.


Basic Qualifications:

  • Must be Fluent in English and Viethamese.
  • 0-3+ years of experience in field or related area
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Access and PowerPoint
  • Effective oral, listening, and written communication skills
  • Strong detail oriented, ability to work independently and effective interpersonal skills are required.
  • Strong teamwork skills
  • Ability to problem solve and patiently handle difficult situations
  • Able to work in a fast paced, high pressure environment
  • Able to work long hours to meet Client driven deadlines
  • Must be able to adapt and adjust to ever changing environment
  • Must be able to learn and understand complex program policies and procedures
  • Able to utilize complex program database systems
  • Must be able to converse well with program applicants via phone
  • Must understand Production


Desired/Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate degree preferred
  • Experience with FEMA programs, CDBG/HUD, and/or other Disaster Recovery programs is strongly desired.


Other Details:

  • Additional preference will be given to Louisiana residents who meet the requirements of this position.
  • Ability to start work at assigned work location in Louisiana within 24-48 hours
  • Ability to work 10-12 hours per day, 6-7 days per week
  • Commitment to a minimum 30-day assignment
