Job Summary
The Compensation Consultant provides assistance on compensation related matters, policies, practices and/or procedures. Under technical direction, researches and analyzes compensation issues and trends, conducts day to day administration of compensation programs and participates in compensation projects.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines:
Work closely with and supports the senior members of the Compensation Team in researching compensation issues and trends for the businesses they support, to ensure consistent application of corporate compensation policies and compliance with employment laws and regulations.
Performs analysis for base and variable compensation, job evaluation and other related activities, which may include but are not limited to, market data research, salary survey submissions, executive compensation, compensation guidelines and etc. Participates on project teams.
Participates in the implementation, administration and maintenance of assigned compensation software applications and systems, and may provide applicable training and support to end-users.
Develops report queries and creates customized reports for decision-making using HR and other business applications.
Documents new procedures and business process workflow as it relates to compensation.
Defines process improvement and best practice opportunities for current business work processes.
Responds to internal client requests, including custom report development and analysis of compensation issues. Proposes solutions and works with internal clients to implement solutions.
Takes the lead on planning, analyzing and administering business related bonus plans (Field Sales Specialist (FSS), marketing reps, actuarial).
Provides support to Executive Compensation efforts by maintaining monthly incentive plan accruals for the organization as well as provide support to equity related requests.
May act as designated technical resource for a specific area of compensation. May also coordinate smaller technical or operational projects including vendor liaison.
May perform additional duties as assigned.
Reporting Relationship
Typically Manager or above.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
1. Solid technical knowledge of compensation theory, practices and applicable laws.
2. Knowledge of human resources theory, practices and applicable laws, the insurance industry, organization and business unit.
3. Solid knowledge of the organization's practices and procedures.
4. Ability to work with and maintain confidential information.
5. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to effectively interact with internal and external business partners.
6. Good presentation skills.
7. Good consultative, facilitation, and project management skills and the ability to exercise independent judgment.
8. Strong organizational, analytical and problem solving skills.
9. In-depth knowledge of compensation software applications and the ability to effectively provide system administration and end-user support.
10. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, as well as other business related software with demonstrated experience working with advanced functions of Office or related technologies (Excel pivot tables, macros, etc.).
Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree, or equivalent.Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) designation preferred but not required.
Typically four or more years of progressive broad-based and/or executive compensation experience or experience in related analytical fields (HR, Finance, etc.).
Consulting experience and/or insurance or finance experience a plus.
