Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Physician Assistant (PA) that will focus on multidisciplinary care of complex GI patients and support our HPB surgical team, consisting of 4 innovative physicians and 2 APPs. This high volume practice provides advanced surgical procedures to complex cases and are involved in some of the nationβs leading research and teaching in the field.
As an outpatient PA, you will play an integral role in providing high-quality, patient-centered care across the spectrum of complex GI conditions and HPB conditions, including preoperative assessment, postoperative care, and long-term follow up. You will work closely with our multidisciplinary team of surgeons, Advanced Practice Providers, medical staff, and support staff to ensure the best possible outcome and experience for our patients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients with complex GI conditions (Hiatal hernia, Esophagectomy), GI cancers, and as well as patients with HPB conditions, including liver, pancreas, and biliary diseases.
- Perform preoperative evaluations, including history and physical exams, diagnostic testing, and patient education.
- Monitor postoperative recovery, including managing complications and providing patient education on care protocols.
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests (e.g., lab results, imaging studies).
- Provide long-term follow-up care to HPB patients, including surveillance of cancer recurrence, liver function, and postoperative outcomes.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including gastroenterologists, oncologists, and radiologists to develop comprehensive care plans for patients.
- Educate and support patients and families throughout the treatment process, providing emotional support and guidance on managing chronic conditions.
- Ensure compliance with all clinical guidelines, best practices, and safety protocols.
Qualifications:
- Current certification as a Physician Assistant (PA) with a valid state license.
- Master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies, or a related healthcare field.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a clinical setting, with a preference for experience in outpatient care, hepatology, or oncology.
- Strong knowledge of hepatobiliary diseases and pancreatic disorders.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage a diverse patient population.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
- Current BLS and ACLS certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary (HPB) surgery, transplant surgery, or gastrointestinal surgery.
- Advanced training or certifications in HPB care or surgery.
