Coast is re-imagining the trillion-dollar U.S. B2B card payments infrastructure, with a focus on the country’s 500,000 commercial fleets, 40 million commercial vehicles, and many million commercial drivers. The incumbent technologies that cater to these customers are decades old, and drivers and fleets increasingly demand modern digital experiences and affordable and transparent financial services products. Coast's mission is to deliver them at a transformational scale, beginning with the Coast Fleet and Fuel Card built on a cutting-edge spend management platform.

Reporting to the Head of Legal as the first Compliance hire, the Compliance Lead will be developing and implementing our compliance management program. This person should be curious, resourceful and collaborative to deliver on various compliance priorities and identify opportunities for improvement. This role provides a great opportunity for growth as you will interact daily with the head of various functions (Legal, Sales, Marketing, Credit and Risk, Product, Customer Service and the CEO) to deliver on various compliance, risk and legal initiatives.

Our ideal candidate is a detail-oriented self-starter who can dig into the details, think creatively of solutions, and push for change when needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure continued compliance with our compliance policies and procedures, including reviewing marketing materials, complaint management, vendor diligence, conducting internal audits and risk assessments and more
  • Provide streamlined compliance support for customer due diligence and onboarding
  • Build out Coast’s financial crimes transaction monitoring program, including reviewing, recommending and assessing new transaction monitoring rules, conducting investigations into suspicious activity, and ensuring appropriate reporting
  • Manage Coast’s day-to-day relationship with its program manager and bank partner
  • Design and implement new processes with Credit and Risk, Sales, Customer Service, Marketing and Product teams and strengthen the role of Legal and Compliance as partners to the business
  • Stay up to date on legal and compliance trends in the SMB finance space and build an in depth knowledge of the platforms and technology we use
  • Be challenged every day and help solve business, compliance and legal problems

Requirements:

  • 3+ years of financial services compliance experience
  • Familiarity with B2B payments and BSA, AML, and sanctions regulatory requirements is a plus 
  • Experience working in a fast-paced startup environment is a plus
  • Team mindset and experience supporting a compliance program that is closely integrated
  • with other business units 
  • Enthusiasm for leveraging technology in the compliance and regulatory space; experience with leading regtech solutions is a plus
  • Highly detailed oriented and takes initiative to anticipate future needs, identify issues, and propose and implement solutions
  • Bachelor’s degree from a four year university
  • Critically, the candidate must be practical and business-minded, smart and creative, and excited about the rewards and volatility of an early-stage venture-backed startup

Compensation

Our salary ranges are based on paying competitively for our size and industry, and are one part of our total compensation package that also includes benefits, signing bonus, and equity. Pay decisions are based on a number of factors, including scope and qualifications for the role, experience level, skillset, and balancing internal equity relative to other Coast employees. We expect the majority of the candidates who are offered roles at Coast to fall healthily within the range based on these factors.

  • Salary range: $85,000 - $125,000 annually
  • Signing bonus
  • Equity grant: commensurate with level determined at the discretion of the company, with meaningful potential upside given the company’s early stage
