Compliance Specialist
The Compliance Specialist will help foster an environment that enhances and promotes compliance and adherence to all relevant federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations applicable policies and procedures. The Compliance Specialist will assist the Directors of Compliance and Chief Compliance Officer administration of the compliance program with the following: HIPAA/Privacy, coding, auditing/monitoring, tracking and reporting of data.Â
Responsibilities:
- Assists in the development, implementation, operation and oversight of the Compliance Program to promote adherence to laws, regulations and ethical business practices. - Overall
- Maintain tracking system/compliance database for compliance related reports. Collect and summarize compliance and privacy monitoring checklists/activity from regional operations. Assist Compliance Officer with maintaining policies, procedures, training and tools. -50%
- Foster and maintain relationships between the field and support office operations through supporting the Compliance Director with Regional Compliance Leader inquiry response and tracking. Responds to inquiries from employees and staff, ensuring questions are adequately researched with appropriate response and closure; including state and local regulatory inquiries. -10%
- Works collaboratively to develop centralized resources and tools to standardize compliance and achieve program effectiveness and efficiencies, where applicable. Coordinates documentation, tracking and resolution of compliance/privacy matters originating from internal or external sources. Assists with development of resource tools for trends in inquiries and incidents. -10%
- Reviews education materials and assists with coordination of compliance education assignments and monitoring of completion. Collaborates with various departments to ensure new hires are properly assigned for compliance training, exclusion screening and other compliance related processes. -10%
- Prepares Compliance related reports and presentations and other communications for review by Chief Compliance Officer. -10%
- Collaborates with human resources to ensure the compliance hotline is monitored on a timely basis, investigations are completed timely and appropriately, with timely response to the reporter. Escalates complex reports and investigations, as appropriate. -5%
- Assists Legal and Compliance team with requests from government agencies/contractors, management, employees and others, as necessary, to ensure an understanding of the organization’s compliance initiatives meet regulatory needs. Coordinate requests from Compliance and Legal team from management, government agencies, internal audit testing of systems/controls and other needs. Assist Compliance Officer with validation of accuracy of information provided and drafting initial response.-5%
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration or other related field OR equivalent education/experience.
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in healthcare compliance management. Background in health care, including health care regulatory and compliance. Knowledge of regulatory impact on multi-state/multi-unit health care operations.
- Knowledge and professional experience in hotline operations, policy development, exclusion monitoring, etc.
- High ethical standards and an appropriate professional demeanor
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and navigate sensitive matters related to organization, employee and senior leadership situations
- Ability to work collaboratively in team and partner well with others
- Project Management skills
- Strong communicator – verbal and written communication skills
