Job Description and Responsibilities
At Houston Formation Evaluation Technology Center, Sugar Land, TX, the geophysics discipline in the interpretation engineering department is seeking applicants for a Computational Geoscientist in engineering and applied research projects. The Computational Geoscientist is expected to contribute to the implementation of new processing solutions of borehole seismic and passive seismic into the SLB and customer business, especially from a computation technology perspective. The successful candidate will take following responsibilities:
- Perform feasibility study, construction, and testing of the new algorithms benefit from the advanced computation technologies at on-premise computation centers, cloud computation centers, and/or edge computation environments.
- Contribute to various back-end environment designs, construction, and deployment.
- Provide technical support for SLB R&D team to sustain and improve the back-end computation environment used by internal and external customers.
- Publish and present the newly developed technologies to internal and external communities, including patent filings.
Qualifications
- Ph.D. or M.S. degree in computational earth science, computational physics, applied mathematics, or related fields.
- Experience of the development of processing technology utilizing HPC and/or other advanced computation technologies in signal processing, inversion problems, forward modeling, data analytics, and machine learning.
- Previous experience in the area of seismology is a plus.
- Previous experience in the development of a back-end computation environment is plus.
