Job Summary:
Kairos Power, LLC is seeking a highly motivated students for our Computer Engineering and Computer Science Internships. Through our unique internships, we provide students with hands-on experience working on innovative nuclear design through high performance computing and experimental investigative methods.
 Internships can include but are not limited to:
- Modeling and Simulation Computer Science / Software Engineer Intern where you will work with the modeling and simulation team in the development of cloud based HPC environment. In this role, you will work with scientific code developers to implement models and coding best practice. The successful candidate will be responsible for compiling code for use in containers, use of configuration as code, version control in Git. Additionally, interns in this role will implement AWS instances using Terraform and automated code formatting into development process.
- Modeling and Simulation Mechanics of Materials Intern where you will work with the modeling and simulation team and materials team in the development and application of constitutive models for Stainless Steels. The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing models in commercial codes such as Ansys and DOE codes such as Grizzly. Additionally, interns in this role will assist in analysis related to reactor components using ASME methods.
- Software Engineer Intern where you will develop a database tool and a graphical interface that allows for generation of part numbers based on a set of industry standard and Kairos specific requirements. The successful candidate will be responsible for meeting the specific project requirements and assuring the technical correctness of design and analysis.Â
- KP-SAM Code Development Intern where you will work with others in the development of KP-SAM, an advanced thermal hydraulic system simulation code. This code will be used by Kairos Power safety analysts to perform all safety related transient analyses related to the Kairos Power Fluoride-cooled High-temperature Reactor (KP-FHR). KP-SAM is based on the MOOSE environment, which allows for the code to be coupled with structural materials, porous media, and resolved computation fluid dynamics codes to perform multi-scale, multi-physics calculations of the complex reactor system. Your contributions will include the development of new reduced order models and methods, establishing coupling between KP-SAM and other relevant tools, verification and validation, and documentation. You will primarily assist with the verification of newly-derived closure models in the KP-SAM system code and validate simulation results with data obtained by Kairos Power. This work entails both making contributions to the code and using the code to simulate real-world scenarios based on available information.

Qualifications
- Education: 3+ years of education in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Mechanic of Materials or Material Science. Master’s and PhD students are encouraged to apply.
- CAD savvy. Have experience with 3D modeling. Bonus points if you have Solidworks experience.
- FEA analysis experience of simple and complex systems, Ansys workbench experience a plus.
- Modeling of the performance and aging of high temperature materials, Stainless Steel experience a plus.
- Knowledgeable on corrosion and thermal aging.
- Experience with DOE MOOSE framework, and Grizzly/Blackbear codes a plus and mesh generation with CUBIT/TRELIS.
- Programming experience:Â C/C++, Git, FORTRAN, LaTeX, Java, Python, Django, Json
- Experience with system analysis codes such as SAM, Bison, RELAP, SASSYS, TRACE
- Experience with FrontEnd development tools such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Framework, angular/react.
- Experience with BackEnd development tools such as Python, Django, flask.
- Experience with database software such as mySQL.
- Knowledgeable about nuclear reactor system analysis, specifically molten salt cooled systems
- Knowledgeable about programming in various languages, software quality assurance and testing.
- Knowledge and/or training in Nuclear Reactor Safety and Version Control preferred
- DevOps experience a big plus, Git, Docker, AWS, Jenkins Experience developing macros and VB Scripts within Microsoft Excel, Access etc.
- Have hands-on experience in implementing algorithms and web applications.
- Prior experience of development and deployment of a website is a plus.
- Ability to work collaboratively with others including, but not limited to Project Managers, Engineers and Designers in a multi-discipline project team environment to accomplish objectives.
- Excellent written & verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills, and attention to detail.
- An excellent technical communicator: Actively listen for and identify the team’s needs, anticipate priorities and keep the team apprised of relevant information.
