BAE Systems under the High-Performance Computing Modernization Program Integrated Technical Services Contract II (HITS-U II) directly supports the DoD's High Performance Computing Modernization Program (HPCMP) mission. We deliver world-class commercial, high-end, high-performance computational capabilities to the Department of Defense's (DoD's) Research, Development, Test and Evaluation (RDT&E) community at the DoD Supercomputing Resource Centers (DSRCs).
BAE Systems is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Computer Operator Team Lead to manage and lead a team of approximately 15 computer operators in a 7x24 data center environment to execute and monitor a range of scheduled computer related activities in support of the Army Research Lab DSRC located at the Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland.
The Computer Operations Team Lead will oversee daily operations, ensuring the monitoring and maintenance of all aspects of the data center's critical infrastructure. This role requires a strong leader with excellent technical and interpersonal skills, capable of driving operational excellence in a high-stakes environment. A successful candidate should be customer service oriented, attentive to detail, self-motivated and have experience with managing teams.
** Key Responsibilities: **
Team Leadership:
- Supervise, mentor, train, and guide a team of 15 computer operators, ensuring adherence to operational procedures and best practices.
- Provide regular feedback, performance evaluations, and career development opportunities to team members.
- Create and maintain work schedules to ensure 24x7 coverage and operational continuity.
- Proven experience leading and managing a technical team in a high-pressure, 24x7 environment.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and lead a diverse team.
Data Center Operations:
- Oversee the monitoring of all data center systems, including servers, storage, networks, power, cooling, and security systems.
- Ensure the prompt identification, troubleshooting, and resolution of any issues or anomalies in the data center environment.
- Coordinate with other groups, teams, and/or companies to implement and maintain backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity plans.
- Strong understanding of data center infrastructure, including servers, networks, storage systems, power, and cooling.
- Proficient in monitoring tools and incident management systems.
- Knowledge of backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity best practices.
Process Management:
- Develop, implement, and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistency and efficiency in operations.
- Continuously review and improve processes to enhance the performance and reliability of the data center.
- Manage incident response protocols, ensuring timely communication and resolution of any operational incidents.
Reporting & Documentation:
- Generate and analyze operational reports, providing insights and recommendations for improving data center performance.
- Maintain accurate documentation of system configurations, procedures, incidents, and resolutions.
- Report on key performance indicators (KPIs) and escalate critical issues to higher management as necessary.
Compliance & Security:
- Ensure compliance with all relevant security, safety, and regulatory standards.
- Implement and monitor security protocols to protect sensitive data and infrastructure.
- Conduct regular audits and inspections to ensure the integrity and security of the data center.
Collaboration & Communication:
- Liaise with other technical teams, vendors, and stakeholders to ensure smooth operations and address any issues.
- Communicate effectively with senior management, providing updates on operations, challenges, and recommendations.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
- High School Diploma and 3-5 years' experience or equivalent experience
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
- Bachelor's degree in information technology, Computer Science, or a related field and 1-3 years experience.
- 3+ years of experience in a data center operations role
- 2+ years in a leadership or supervisory position.
- Experience in military or government data center operations.
Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $62810 - $100540
Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
