Job Description

The Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) Surface Surveillance Systems Support Team provides engineering support for Airport Surface Detection Equipment (ASDE-3 and ASDE-X), Runway Status Lights (RWSL) and Airport Surface Surveillance Capability (ASSC) systems. Responsibilities:

• Provide engineering support services for resolving hardware/software issues at field sites
• Provide software development services such as code reviews, analysis and modifications
• Develop software test plans, procedures and reports
• Support technology refresh of legacy system hardware and software
• Assist with unit, regression and integration testing
• Occasional travel to airports across the nation to provide engineering support

Requirements

• 7+ years experience as a professional Computer/Software engineer.
• Experience with the software development life cycle including gather requirements, development, testing and release
• Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills
• Effective verbal and written communication skills with ability to organize, present and explain information
• Excited to participate in a team environment but able to work well individually
• Self-motivated to deliver quality products with limited direction and guidance
• Understands the importance of collaboration with other team members
• Ability to pass an FAA background investigation (US Citizenship or Permanent Residency required)
• Ability to travel up to 25% if required

Education/Experience:

• A Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or Computer Science is required. The degree must be from a school of engineering accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum.
• Software programming experience using object-oriented languages such as JAVA, C++, GO or C# is desirable
• Experience with Linux Operating Systems (e.g. Red Hat, Debian)
• Experience with high-level scripting languages (e.g. BASH, Python, Perl, Ruby) is desirable
• Experience with System Administration or Cyber Security is desirable
• Experience using software version control software such as GIT and issue tracking software such as JIRA
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
