Salary Range

$73,900 - $122,100

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

What Your Job Will Be Like

We are seeking a Linux system administrator in the role Computing Infrastructure Engineer to support critical science and engineering computing environments. The individual will join a fast-paced, dynamic, agile team environment passionate about the delivery of computational engineering services and infrastructure. The ideal candidate is well rounded, having experience with modern systems architectures, development methods, tools, and the underlying infrastructure. We are looking for a self-motivated, driven, problem solver to join our team.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Perform system administration, integration, fault isolation, diagnostics and repair of large multi-node computing environments
  • Deploy and support multi-rack compute hardware and storage systems
  • Collaborate with hardware and software vendors to configure and deploy computing systems and environments
  • Automate the installation and secure configuration of operating systems and computational platforms using configuration management systems
  • Communicate and collaborate with team members, customers, and other partners
This position is eligible for telecommuting and the selected applicant must live within a reasonable distance for commuting to the assigned work location when necessary.

Qualifications We Require

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Information Technology plus five (5) years of relevant experience (No degree + 13 years; AS + 9 years)
  • Experience with scripting languages (BASH or Python)
  • 3 plus years experience with Linux and/or UNIX system administration
  • Ability to acquire and maintain DOE Q clearance

Qualifications We Desire

  • Experienced writing basic shell scripts
  • Experience with cloud and virtual environments
  • Experience in automated system configuration management
  • Experience building, configuring, installing and maintaining RedHat Enterprise Linux
  • Experience in configuring, compiling and installing Linux software
  • Experience with Git version control system
  • Experience in multiple scripting languages (python, bash, perl)
  • Experience with configuration management software (puppet, ansible)
  • Experience producing detailed user documentation
  • VMware certification or training
  • Experience with HPC systems
  • System administration experience for Linux/UNIX operating systems and/or Intel x86 platform
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to identify creative solutions
  • Experience with hardware architectural design and system integration and implementation
  • Demonstrated knowledge of networking, data storage and retention and/or highly scalable storage systems
  • Experience with fault investigation and anomaly resolution, security and information assurance
  • Experience working in a classified environment
  • Technical certifications through Red Hat
  • Ability to function in a dynamic, fast-paced, multi-disciplinary team
  • Good interpersonal, communication, prioritization, and organizational skills
  • Knowledge of ITIL and Cyber Security standard methodologies

Science & Engineering Computing-Environment Services Department, Org 9321, provides advanced capabilities and in-depth support for a broad range of scientific and engineering computing services which include: high performance computing, remote graphics workstations, high performance storage, scientific and engineering applications, web development, software engineering, and continuous integration (compilation and test) environments. The department designs, develops, manages, and provides cutting edge software and tools across multiple platforms used to create complex mission unique capabilities. The department develops and implements new and emergent technologies and capabilities in support of mission and programmatic needs.
