The Consulting Engineer of the Supply Chain Solutions team serves as the technical leader for all aspects of integration and application development, collaborating with multiple business partners. They partner with the Product Owner to consume business requirements and deliver technical solutions that meet the needs of the Supply Chain team and business partners. This role leads a team of engineers by example, serving as a technical resource to the team in order to deliver exceptional results. This individual will effectively exhibit JD Finish Line's core values of Customer, People, Winning, Community, and Financial Responsibility in everything they do by performing the following main duties
Key Responsibilities and Tasks:
Required Education and/or Experience
Bachelor's degree (B.A.) in Information Systems or other related field from a four-year college or university, or equivalent combination of education and experience. 5 - 7 years of proven work ability in application development and solutions related to the current technology platform. Must have experience with partnering with stakeholders of all levels of the organization to plan and solve problems. Professional experience in Retail and Supply Chain IT domains are desired.
Core Competencies:
Required Computer and/or Technical Skills
Should have intermediate to advanced knowledge and abilities with Google Applications and other common tools such as: BitBucket, Intelij, DBeaver/SQL Developer, Studio 3t, Conduktor, and Postman.
Communication Skills
Must be an effective communicator with internal individuals at all levels. This includes spoken, written, electronic, and presentation skills. Communication should be consistently constructive and professional. Must be a good team player. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of peers, managers and cross functional team members.
Decision Making and Problem Solving Skills
Able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Able to analyze results at a micro and macro level and present findings. Makes routine decisions following established policies and procedures; collaborates with manager to gain assistance when complex issues arise.
Uses specialized knowledge to go beyond the routine to solve complex problems that frequently affect areas beyond own functional area. Must be able to approach unfamiliar situations, projects, and opportunities with confidence and curiosity. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected to go above-and-beyond without being instructed by manager.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks:
- Collaboration with Product Owners to understand desired application capabilities and scenarios to ensure the overall approach is sound
- Establishment of best practices for Supply Chain engineers consistent with recommendations from the larger development community
- Responsible for all strategic technical leadership for the Supply Chain team; may have direct reports.
- Development of services and integrations (Java, Spring Boot) utilizing Microservice architecture (Docker, Kubernetes) and other Cloud-ready techniques to deliver a fully modernized application layer.
- Supporting existing codebase, and providing a pathway to modernize old applications into newer, more standardized solutions. Championing prioritization of technical debt and other stabilizing changes to existing codebase
- Researching new technologies and practices used in the industry, and recommending tools and technology to accomplish team goals, inclusive of partnering with necessary resources to beta-test potential solutions
- Works with Cloud based tools (Google GCP, Big Query, Dataproc, Composer, Steamsets, Looker, etc.) to deliver modern cloud-based solutions
- Creation and enhancement to documentation of application functionality to enable collaboration with other teams, but also increase awareness across the team itself. Encouragement of cross-training and knowledge sharing in the team.
- Establishment of governance of canonical data types. This extends to messaging (Kafka, JMS) through services, data captured in the service storage layer (Mongo, Oracle, Informix), and content exchanged through REST web services
- Serve as a technical resource and leader to business partners and engineers, helping with best practices to ensure the platform performs and meets business expectations
- Collaborate closing with Consulting Engineer peers, Scrum Masters, and Product owners from other teams to deliver cross-functional projects with complexity dependencies to ensure changes are appropriate for the Supply Chain team, but also provide the needed functionality for the project
