General Description:
PMG’s Strategic Planning & Insights team is searching for a highly motivated Strategic Analyst to lead customer-focused primary and secondary research projects and deliver brand and consumer insights. This role comes to life at the intersection of data and storytelling. The ideal candidate will be excited to shape and drive strategies and make impact through data and insights. It is not enough to find and deliver data and research—this role requires a passion for interpreting that data into actionable insights that can be used by agency teams and client partners. This role is highly visible across client strategy, media, and creative functions and is charged with driving strategic insight and data-driven decision making across PMG’s existing client base, in addition to playing an active role in supporting new business ventures. This position will proactively identify and implement innovative analytic methodologies to further the understanding of consumers including the rational and emotional dimensions of behavior and its impact on media planning, creative development, product sales and branding. They may help evaluate and select external research suppliers and consultants. They will become an in-house agency expert on all syndicated tools that are relevant to the Strategic Planning & Insights team. They will interpret the research findings to internal brand and performance teams, to aid in the development of strategies for all consumer touch points - from strategic planning to creative to media to measurement.
Research & Insights:
- Demonstrate applied knowledge across the core phases of the market research cycle: awareness, targeting, acquisition and retention
- Able to break down high level business questions or concerns into analytical tasks, and come up with a comprehensive data-oriented research plan
- Design, manage, analyze, and communicate primary market research related to specific business questions. Deliver data-driven insights in an easy-to-digest manner
- Manage all aspects of consumer research including both quantitative and qualitative research. Have experience setting research objectives, writing surveys, creating sound sampling and weighting schemes, and analyzing results
- Effectively work with syndicated data such as: YouGov, GWI, MRI-Simmons, NetBase, Kantar, Pathmatics, Nielsen, Mintel etc, in order to build creative and media personas, consumer journey maps, market intelligence reports, and insights that will aid in the development of strategic planning, digital transformation, creative briefs, media planning, and brand positioning
- Remain well-versed in the ever-changing landscape of digital media, social media and content creation platforms, and apply your knowledge of these platforms to help develop contextually-relevant brand insights
- Leverage strong storytelling skills to develop impactful reporting and output to influence key stakeholders and ultimately drive action across our brands and categories
- Own and synthesize data, and lead the development of customer segmentation to inform strategic planning and decision-making throughout the organization
- Collaborate with PMG Analytics team to utilize first-party customer data and develop data-driven insights and collaborate with PMG’s Development and Product Innovation teams to utilize APIs to create new technology solutions
- Ensure all research is designed and analyzed in such a way that it is easily translated into usable insights by a non-technical audience, preferably through effective data visualizations or dashboarding
- Manage relationships across internal teams (strategy, media, creative, clients, etc.) and external data vendors, and aid all parties in the innovation of custom analytics solutions that can potentially expand the team’s capabilities.
Skills & Experience:
- 5+ years of related work experience in Consumer Insights, Strategic Analytics, or Research roles
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience
- Experience working directly with clients and interdisciplinary teams (client strategy, media, creative) to develop briefs and planning
- Direct experience leading studies with various methodologies: quantitative surveys, focus groups, 1:1, ethnographies, online qualitative research, social listening, audience analysis, custom market research etc.
- Experience with various statistical techniques (regression analysis, coefficient correlation, significance testing, custom research design)
- Experience designing client-facing dashboards (experience in Tableau or Google Data Studio a plus but not required)
- A strong writer, presenter and communicator who simplifies complexities to get to the core of the problem
- An independent go-getter who is passionate about innovating through data
- A genuine desire and excitement to learn about consumers and brands
- Strong analytical skills with proficiency in Microsoft Excel (required)
- Strong presentation skills with proficiency in KeyNote (required)
