Consumer Systems Programmer/Analyst
Hearst Newspapers at the Houston Chronicle is seeking a mid to senior-level Programmer / Analyst to focus on projects including database management, ETL processes, reporting, web-based tools for the backend systems, automation of processes, and support SaaS applications. Strong experience needed in VB Script, CSS and SQL/SSRS/SSIS. Knowledge of newspaper industry subscriber systems is a plus. The Programmer / Analysis must be able to define, develop, test, analyze, and maintain new software applications in support of the achievement of business requirements. This includes writing, coding, testing, and analyzing software programs and applications.
This technology team focuses on supporting consumer revenue (subscriber) growth at 18 major daily newspapers across the US including titles like the Houston Chronicle, San Antonio Express-News, and the San Francisco Chronicle. Supporting key systems, applications, and processes behind the print and digital subscription platform is a key goal for the next 5 years in the industry.
This position will be working within a team environment to maintain and enhance the existing interfaces and work on new projects. The ability to document requirements and processes is a must and responsible for working on multiple projects simultaneously as directed by the management. This user will learn the primary SaaS application and work directly with the business users to offer creative solutions and troubleshoot all the systems and interface-related issues.
This position requires technical skills in the CSS, VB Script, SQL and SSRS/SSIS environments as well as the ability to work well directly with users.
The selected candidate should be able to deliver under pressure, be self-motivated, be able to think critically and creatively.
Qualifications also include (items are required unless noted otherwise):
- Strong software development skills and experience
- Software analyst experience
- Poses excellent interpersonal skills to communicate with users and management.
- Experience with web technologies like VB script
- Basic web development skills (HTML, CSS)
- Strong database knowledge (SQL Server and SSRS/SSIS)
- Demonstrated experience with .Net Framework, SQL Server, C#, ASP.NET, web services, and XML
- Demonstrated ability to read, understand, interpret APIs, and program software and interfaces against those APIs
- Robotic Process Automation (RPA) job automation and machine learning interests (training available)
- B.S. Degree in Computer Science and 3-5 years of experience
