The role:

Join our team as a Communication Specialist! You'll be responsible for delivering high-quality written content, developing effective communication strategies, and managing our social media presence. As a valued consultant to various internal stakeholders, you'll assist in planning and executing communication initiatives. Additionally, you'll take charge of our external publications as the managing editor, oversee internal employee news reporting, publish content on our blog, and maintain our B2B social media channel. What You'll Do:

  1. Provides communications support to internal stakeholders to help each team achieve its business objectives with employers, agents, injured workers and other external audiences.
  2. Develops and executes communication strategies through extensive writing and creative content development, providing other communications consulting services as needed.
  3. Acts as the editor of SFM's internal employee news service which involves planning editorial content and serving as lead writer of news stories and overseeing production and distribution of the internal postings.
  4. Serves as managing editor for the Company's periodical agent and policyholder e-newsletters. Researches and writes for customer-facing electronic publications, following professional standards of grammar and journalism style. Coordinates input from internal subject matter experts.
  5. Manages the Company's social media channels which includes posting content to SFM's social media communities, developing the channels for SFM's B2B market, and tracking and reporting the results of social community activity.
  6. Maintains the Company's public-facing blog, generating new blog content in collaboration with subject matter experts throughout the organization and provides ongoing updates to established blog posts, ensuring that all published blog content is accurate and up to date.
  7. Serves as backup site administrator for SFM's intranet and external website.
  8. Assists in managing the department's literature resources, including working with team members in re-supplying literature stock and tracking usage.
  9. Uses creativity and resourcefulness in developing communications deliverables that promote the Company's vision, mission and corporate values.
  10. Works with internal and external customers delivering service excellence while maintaining appropriate interactions with both internal and external customers.

What We'll Love About You:

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in mass communications, journalism, marketing, public relations, English or related field.
  • Three or more years' professional experience in a communications environment.
  • Extensive writing and editing experience.
  • Social media experience.
  • Experience using Adobe Creative Suite software a plus.
  • HTML experience a plus.
  • Journalism background/experience with newspaper, magazine, blog or corporate publication strongly preferred.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Exceptional writing, style and grammar skills.
  • Knowledge of workers' compensation and/or casualty insurance helpful.
  • Strong knowledge of social media platforms and communities.
  • Ability to conduct interviews and perform research when needed.
  • Strong experience in online media.
  • Strong initiative to strive for continuous accuracy, quality and timeliness of information.
  • Must be a skillful communicator with the ability to communicate with a wide variety of people/audiences.
  • Proven ability of building and maintaining positive and productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent customer service skills to collaborate with team members, team leaders and executives.
  • Highly organized and detail oriented.
  • Must be resourceful and creative.
  • Effective prioritization and time management skills.
  • Must be comfortable presenting information to groups of people.
  • Excellent in MS Office software applications (Excel, Word, etc.).
  • Familiarity with working on project teams.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

Work takes place in a semi paperless environment within an office setting, either on business premises or remote location, using standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers, which requires being stationary for extended periods of time. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear, and maintain concentration and focus. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms and work with close vision. Regular attendance is required. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds. Work is performed indoors with little to no exposure to extreme outdoor weather conditions.
