How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)

SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. As a Continuous Improvement Manager, you will develop and execute global continuous improvement strategies, methodologies, and results-oriented programs.

This position will be accountable for developing a culture of engagement and continuous improvement aimed at improving manufacturing cost productivity through the elimination of waste, reduction of variation, and optimizing our business value delivery process. This will be accomplished through the engagement of cross-functional and cross-segment teams, and by utilizing lean and six sigma methodologies in project execution.

The purpose of this position is to lead a wide range of teams with the objective of maximizing productivity, minimizing cost and reducing lead time throughout the entire value delivery cycle. The incumbent is responsible for managing a variety of projects across the global enterprise while assuming a level of 'personal accountability' for the outcome. Key responsibilities include leading cross-functional teams, developing project charters, and executing project plans, as well as tracking and reporting progress. This position will also develop and lead training in Lean Methodologies. Key criteria include technical skills, sound industrial engineering and business judgment, strong communication skills and a proven ability to successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously. This position will require solid evaluation skills, creativity and originality in identifying and executing improvements to the value delivery cycle.

What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)

While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be:

  • Target breakthrough improvement opportunities by applying data-driven, process problem solving and Pareto analysis techniques
  • Deploy Lean Manufacturing Methodologies including Value Stream Mapping, Standard Work, Kaizen, 5S, and Visual Management
  • Improve manufacturing and transactional procedures, develop new processes/work standards, create process documentation as well as perform capacity, efficiency and shop floor design analysis (time studies, line balancing, factory layout, works prep, production routing and material planning)
  • Identify key individuals for team membership and secure their availability
  • Prepare detailed plans to track project performance and assure timely completion and achievement of quality and savings goals
  • Apply Lean and Six Sigma tools and techniques to define, measure, analyze, improve, and control project processes
  • Report on project progress to appropriate leadership levels on a regular basis
  • Identify barriers to project success and solicit assistance as needed
  • Meet objectives set forth per individual project charter thereby improving business profitability
  • Document lessons learned and share best practices with other Continuous Improvement Leaders
  • Prepare and provide training to the organization on Lean and Six Sigma skills

What we are looking for (Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education)

We each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has:

Required Experience & Education

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Industrial Engineering preferred)
  • 5+ years of continuous improvement experience and program leadership
  • 5+ years of Manufacturing Management experience preferred
  • Cross-Functional leadership experience preferred

Certifications

  • Lean certification or equivalent training
  • Advanced Lean knowledge and the ability to mentor at all levels to impart knowledge and develop a self-sustaining, continuous improvement culture
  • High energy with strong sense of urgency
  • Change Agent
  • Ability to exercise influence without authority
  • Strong statistical knowledge and the ability to apply statistics to product and process improvement projects
  • Objective, open-minded, "out-of-the-box" thinker
  • Proven track record of continuous improvement implementation
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and communication skills at all levels of the organization
  • Knowledge of SAP and production systems
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Access, Excel, Power Point and Word
