POSITION SUMMARY

Develops, implements, and executes the corporate continuous improvement vision and strategy to effectively provide the education, resource support, and consulting required to support all Tubelite in the execution of their continuous improvement plans. Promotes and coordinates continuous improvement programs. Working with the Apogee business units this individual assists with and develops plans, coordinates and provides leadership for breakthrough events for the business unit they support as well as others. Is responsible for supporting business unit profitability in his/her region. Acts as a change agent for the organization and will drive this process through Tubelite. Programs can require significant development and departures from existing practices.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Responsible for the identification, development and execution of programs, policies and procedures that support the continuous improvement vision for all brands. Continuous Improvement processes include everything from the core process of product development through the core process of service and support. Included in this is the development and communication of metrics that support continuous improvement processes.
  • Has the responsibility for assisting with coordinating all of the corporation's Continuous Improvement activity for the business unit in which they support. Acts as an interface between the different Businesses to ensure proper communications take place; priorities are established in conjunction with the CI Manager. Is the "Champion" of Improvement activities and promotes/sells the benefit of these activities.
  • Is responsible for directing and/or supporting all of the corporation's breakthrough Kaizen activities for the business units. Working in conjunction with the business unit and the CI Manager, assists with establishing project priorities, establishing objectives for each project and as required providing leadership and direction to the Project leaders and teams.
  • Is responsible for the achievement of acceptable levels of profitability in the business units under his/her authority. Acts as catalyst for appropriate and necessary changes in business practices which support long-term financial performance.
  • Works with the CI Manager to ensure that the activities tie into the overall continuous improvement vision.
  • Allocates a portion of time toward benchmarking world-class manufacturing and business process performances. Wherever possible, tangible measures of time, cost and quality should be established throughout all divisions.
  • Supports efforts to reduce total cost expense for Tubelite. Develops, monitors and continuously improves total systems costs.
  • Responsible for keeping informed of the latest developments in continuous improvement. Works with the CI Manager in the implementation of lean systems throughout Tubelite. Responsible for developing and documenting new processes.
  • Responsible for assisting in the development of effective lean training programs and in providing lean training for their Business Unit partners as well as others.
  • Specializes in the use of the statistical analysis of data and the DMAIC process (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control) methodology and how to integrate their use with other continuous improvement tools.
  • Responsible for the identification, development and implementation of programs, policies and procedures that support total customer satisfaction, both internally and externally, where applicable in relation to this position.
  • Very light ad hoc travel
  • Participates in Tubelite Continuous Improvement efforts by understanding his/her team's performance and actively implementing and supporting process improvements.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no direct supervisory responsibilities at this time, but requires the individual to gain support/commitment from the assigned business units within Tubelite.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) from four-year college or university; six years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from executives, branch principals, groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

COMPUTER SKILLS

Word, Excel, AutoCAD, MiniTab, Visio, and Power Point.

If during this time it is determined that the employee cannot successfully fulfill the requirements of this position, every attempt will be made to return the employee to his/her previous job assignment, if it has not already been filled by another employee.
