Contract Research Associate, Gene Editing

Position Overview

Beam Therapeutics is seeking a talented and enthusiastic Contract Research Associate to join the Gene Editing Technology Development team. The qualified candidate will coordinate their activities closely with Scientists conducting directed-evolution workflows to aid in the discovery and optimization of novel base editor variants that will enable Beam’s growing therapeutic portfolio, allowing us to help more patients in need.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Physical and digital inventory management of common reagents.
• Media and reagent preparation.
• Molecular cloning of plasmid reagents.
• Bacterial culture, competent cell preparation, and transformations.
• Plasmid and PCR purification.
• Clonal variant isolation and expansions.
• NGS and Sanger sample preparation, submission, and alignment analysis of Sanger sequencing reads using molecular biology software.
• Mammalian cell line maintenance and transfection.
• Continuous communication with project leaders to ensure needs are met on an ongoing basis.
• Precise adherence to provided laboratory protocols.
• Maintain clear and complete electronic records of material generation and experimental results.

Qualifications:

• BA/BSc in a life science with 2+ years of relevant laboratory experience in an academic group (outside of coursework) or in industry.
• Proficiency in molecular biology workflows such as sterile technique, primer design, PCR, plasmid isolation, and modern cloning techniques.
• Excellent organizational, time management, oral and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in use of sequence and data analysis, visualization, and design tools such as Benchling, Geneious, GraphPad Prism, Microsoft excel, etc.
• This position requires onsite presence.
