Controller

The Controller will play a critical role in overseeing the financial operations of BrightSign (a private equity owned company). Reporting directly to the CFO, the successful candidate will be responsible for leading the accounting team and  functions, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, and implementing best practices to support the company's financial objectives. This is a hybrid work position based in San Jose, CA.

Responsibilities:

Monthly/Quarterly/Annual Close Process:

• Coordinate and manage the monthly, quarterly and annual close process.
• Enhance and streamline the existing close processes.
• Develop internal capex policy and procedures to maximize return on assets

Cash Management:

• Monitor and manage cash flow to optimize liquidity and support business operations.
• Implement effective cash forecasting processes to ensure adequate funding for upcoming initiatives, including maintaining and further developing the Company’s 13-week cash flow forecast.

Internal Controls and processes

• Maintain systems of internal controls to safeguard financial assets of the organization, ensure the accuracy of financial reporting and mitigate risk; ensure controls remain adequate and effective and that documentation for transactions is sufficient, appropriately approved and retained for purposes of independent and government audits.
• Develop and enforce financial policies and procedures to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.Be the internal subject matter expert of all things GAAP related.
• Refine policies, procedures, processes and controls to promote growth, efficiencies and improvements.
• Implement systems to automate and make accounting functions more efficient.

Audit, Tax and Compliance:

• Coordinate and manage the annual audit process, liaising with external auditors.
• Ensure compliance with relevant, country specific accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
• Manage all areas and aspects of tax as it relates to the company. This is including but not limited to federal, state and country tax registrations, filings, notices, etc., sales tax, GST/HST in other countries, registrations, filings, notices, certificate management, etc., transfer pricing studies and related cost-plus agreements and other tax related matters.

Team Leadership:

• Lead and mentor the accounting team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive financial awareness and accountability throughout the organization.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field; CPA designation required.
• Proven 5 years experience as a Controller.
• Private equity experience is strongly preferred.
• Strong understanding of financial reporting standards and regulatory compliance.
• Previous experience in the industrial technology industry or related sectors is a plus.
• Exceptional analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

Salary Range: $170,000-$180,000
