Controller

As a small, very early stage team in a largely unstructured environment, the ability to independently orient yourself to the problems that need to be solved and then follow through is essential.

We are looking for a finance team member to oversee the finance function in the role of controller. We are looking for a leader who will implement financial processes to support Science's growth. The ideal candidate will have proven industry experience as an accountant, preferably in a senior role. As a strong communicator and skilled financial analyst, you will make it your mission to streamline our budgeting, payroll, and financial reporting processes. You will produce thorough financial-status reports helping to create a clear picture of how money moves through our company, help improve our operational efficiency, aid in our continued growth. 

Role responsibilities:

• Deliver complete and accurate financial information that can be relied on to help drive impactful financial decisions.
• Guide financial decisions by applying company needs to current economic landscape
• Serve as the company's expert on accounting matters, partnering with other departments on structuring policies, and advising with respect to accounting implications
• Develop, implement, and maintain financial controls and guidelines
• Help develop and support short and long-term operational strategies

Key qualifications:

• Professional accounting certification, including CPA, CMA, CGA, or CA 
• 5+ years proven accounting experience
• Working knowledge of finance law and regulatory standards (GAAP)
• Strong understanding of economic and banking processes
• You are someone experienced building and growing teams and passionate about promoting strong business partner relationships.

Preferred qualifications: 

• 5+ years experience as a senior-level accounting or finance manager
• Strong working knowledge of detailed financial data analysis
• Proven payroll experience, with a focus on streamlining accounting processes
• Exemplary history of financial project management
• Working knowledge of federal, state, and local tax compliance regulations and reporting
