This responsibility requires that we be service oriented relative to the financial needs of all departments while still assuring that all transactions adhere to Kinexus Group policies and procedures, generally accepted accounting principles, and rules established through various federal, state, and local funding sources.

OUR DESIRED OUTCOMES:
General daily operations of the finance department, performing a wide variety of activities including but not limited to: financial reporting, yearly- quarterly- monthly financial statements/closes, budgeting, board(s) support, and external monitoring, audits, and government filings. May periodically assist when needed on processes, controls, and support for other accounting activities including accounts payable and disbursements, accounts receivable/cash management and receipts, payroll and related tax filings, invoicing, and reporting to various funds and grantors.
WHAT WE EXPECT FROM YOU:
The Controller is a key player within the KG Corporate Operations Support Team. This position works closely with the CFO, Business Unit and Subsidiary Leaders, and accountants to meet the desired outcomes above. A successful Controller will be active in the pursuit of Kinexus Group’s financial goals, serving as a resource to the leadership team, subsidiary leaders and empowers financial team to remain vigilant and responsible for solving problems and sharing data-driven insights.
- Providing Kinexus Group Leadership with information vital to the decision-making process.
- Assist subsidiary Executive Directors to ensure costs are reported accurately and in a timely manner.
- Collaborates with the CFO to optimize the short-term cash position of Kinexus Group.
- Reconciles all bank accounts monthly; identify inconsistencies and address challenges.
- Reconciles external investor statements; attend quarterly performance reviews with constituents from outside funding sources.
- Prepares budgets by establishing schedules; collecting, analyzing, and consolidating financial data; recommending plans; reviewing and refining with budget owners.
- Assists in establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures.
- Protects assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls.
- Main Point of Contact (POC) with auditors and responsible for successful completion of yearly Single Audit, 990, and Consolidated Financial Statements for Kinexus Group and subsidiaries.
- Key member in corporate financial governance including financial management system structure and corporate accounting principles and methodologies.
- Ensures the integrity of financial data in the accounting system is in compliance with Federal, state and local government accounting standards.
- Collaborates on initiatives and projects, performing special reviews, reports, and analyses for new and existing business ventures or programs.
- Working understanding of current OMB circulars and state/federal/local policies and regulations related to the Workforce System, with supplemental financial requirements of all funding sources.
- Ensure the full integration of the finance team within the larger Kinexus Group Team to reduce duplication of effort, streamline services, and maximize all resources in support of the right service at the right time.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in the areas of accounting, finance, or a related field.
- Knowledge and understanding of generally accepted accounting principles, general business practices, and project management.
- Ability to both think critically and execute tactically.
- A strong business acumen with attention to detail.
- Spreadsheet proficiency.
- Must be a self-starter; work with a minimum of supervision.
- Must have good interpersonal skills, the ability to organize, prioritize and maintain confidentiality, build relationships and the ability to work in team environment.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
- Five or more years of experience in accounting.
- Michigan CPA License
- Nonprofit, workforce, or economic development experience. Grants management or fund-based accounting expertise.
