Job Description

About R-Zero

R-Zero is on a mission to deliver a better future for all via safer, healthier shared indoor environments.

Working here means you’ll help create a new category–one that bridges science, public health, and technology. You’ll ask why and achieve new outcomes, developing skills beyond your existing scope of expertise. You’ll join a diverse team of forward-thinkers, collaborating on work that will shape the future of human health.

No playbook exists for the problems we are solving, but our science-based approach and revolutionary technology ensure that together, we will change the world

You will be the Controller, managing a small accounting department, and work closely with the Chief Financial Officer. The intellectually curious and detail-oriented Controller will support the Finance operation with a focus on accurate processing of transactions, timely closing of accounts and the production of monthly, quarterly and annual reports. You will develop important relationships with R-Zero’s business leaders, become an expert in the Company’s product offerings and corporate strategy, and aid in the design and build out of best-in-class financial processes and solutions. This is a high impact, high visibility position that will have regular interaction with R-Zero’s executive leadership team. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated history of establishing and meeting high performance objectives, implementing new processes and solutions, producing analyses and reports that clearly explain financial data, and working to constantly improve efficiency and accuracy to better the Finance department and its customers.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for full-cycle accounting and day-to-day accounting operations including AP/AR, treasury management, inventory, fixed assets, inter-company transactions, general ledger maintenance, account reconciliations and consolidation
  • Own and oversee our NetSuite ERP system, working cross-functionally with the Manufacturing operations teams to implement standard cost systems
  • Own month and year-end close processes for the organization, delivering results on-time with consistently high levels of accuracy. Continue the development of our process checklists and update them in response to business changes and growth.
  • Manage and coach an ambitious junior accounting team, ensuring they complete their tasks according to established priorities and deadlines.
  • Report and present timely, accurate, consolidated financial results. Collaborate with FP&A to produce monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statement packages that track against metrics and include cash flow analysis.
  • Own and administer the payroll function for multiple entities. Work closely with People Ops to migrate payroll to a PEO
  • Be accountable for tax compliance including the timely and accurate submission of filings, state-level reporting, and corporate tax reconciliations.
  • Actively participate in our annual planning process and re-forecasting cycles.
  • Work directly with external auditors to complete year-end activities – including financial audits and corporate tax provisions.
  • Implement appropriate internal controls and strengthen them as the team/business grows.
  • Participate as needed in other strategic projects, providing financial insight and analysis.

Experience Requirements:

  • BA/BS in Finance, Business Administration, or other relevant degree
  • Strong knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles including generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), including ASC 606
  • CPA with experience at a Big 4 Accounting Firm
  • 5+ years progressive experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller or Senior Accounting Manager
  • At least 2 years experience working directly with NetSuite (preferably including the initial implementation of the software)
  • Demonstrated excellence in financial modeling and analytical skills, using key tools within Microsoft Office or G-Suite, including Vena or similar FP&A software
  • Relevant industry experience including SAAS and manufacturing

R-Zero’s benefits program underscores our commitment to health equity and care for all people–including our employees. Some of these benefits include:

  • Remote-first workplace
  • Unlimited vacation, paid holidays
  • Competitive total compensation with equity:
    • Competitive compensation–backed by market research and audited annually for pay disparities–is our baseline. In addition to competitive base bay, every member of our team receives equity. We believe shared ownership leads to shared success.
  • Healthcare benefits (medical, dental, vision) starting on day one. We offer coverage for employees, their spouses/domestic partners, and their children. Employee plans are covered at 100%.
  • 12 weeks paid parental leave for all genders
  • Access to Maven Clinic, which supports all paths to parenthood, including surrogacy, IVF, adoption, and egg freezing
  • 401(k) program starting on day one
  • Coverage for mental health care, with in-person and virtual treatment options
  • AD+D and life insurance

At R-Zero, we are dedicated to building a diverse and inclusive workplace, so if you’re excited about this role, we encourage you to apply–even if your experience doesn’t perfectly align with every bullet point in the job description.
