More than a job

We’re hiring for a Controller for our client, Marin Management Corp, who is an established Real Estate management and investment company located in Manhattan. The Controller’s primary responsibilities at Marin will be to lead and oversee an accounting department of five bookkeepers, apply principles of accounting to compile and analyze financial information and advise senior management on accounting matters, oversee the maintenance of strong internal accounting processes and controls, and lead accounting processes and procedures such as cash management, AR/AP, month end close, and financial reporting activities for the company’s 2000+ unit portfolio. This position requires 3-4 days in the office, with the flexibility to work from home the remainder of the week.

Responsibilities include and are not limited to the following:

• Manage and oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable clerks and the recording of daily activities and reporting
• Review financial statements at month-end close
• Produce executive summaries of current and projected financial position of the management and present interpretations and recommendations for further actions.
• Supervise and assist bookkeeping staff in cash management to include wire transfers/bank check requests, deposit review, bank draws, bank reconciliations
• Maintain strong internal accounting processes and controls
• Supervise and assist in the budget process for the management company and individual properties within the portfolio
• Identify areas for process improvement and recommend solutions

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
• Minimum of 7 years of accounting and general ledger experience,
• Demonstrated ability to understand complex accounting processes
• High attention to detail and excellent organizational and writing skills
• High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation.
• Must be able to work as part of a team
• Possess and demonstrate an ability to write and communicate effectively
• Possess a high degree of proficiency in Excel
• Experience with Yardi Voyager or other real estate software a plus

Preferred Qualifications

• CPA License
• Experience working within the Real Estate industry and public accounting
