About the opportunity

​​Ontra is seeking an experienced and highly motivated business professional to serve as Controller.  The Controller will be a senior leader on the Finance & Accounting team, supporting the function as Ontra seeks to scale through its next phase of accelerated growth.  The Controller will have primary responsibility for the company’s accounting function, including the maintenance of GAAP-compliant financial statements and associated reports, the production of managerial accounting data, tax reporting and compliance, and general support of the broader finance function. 

The Controller will also be charged with managing certain sub-functions within the Finance & Accounting team, including, for example, Accounts Payable and/or Billing & Collections.  The Controller will receive a competitive compensation package, including equity and a market-leading benefits offering.

The Controller will report directly to Andy Lujan, the VP of Finance & Accounting.

What you’ll do

  • Accounting: Manage the general ledger on a day-to-day basis, including entry of all accounting data into the company’s accounting software (Intacct)
  • Reporting: Produce GAAP-compliant monthly financial statements on a timely basis and generate critical accounting reports (e.g., budget-to-actual comparisons, customer revenue performance, A/R agings, etc.)
  • Tools & Technology: Implement and optimize tools, technology, and processes to drive efficiency and scalability in the accounting function
  • Auditing: Oversee and manage external auditors, including preparation for and execution of the annual audit process
  • External Resource Management: Manage outside accountants on ongoing financial accounting activities, tax-related activities, and manage coordination between the company’s US-based accounting firm and international counterparts
  • Accounting Leadership: Hire, train, and manage a team of high-performing accounting professionals to support the company’s growth
  • Broader Functional Leadership: Manage (including hiring, training and retaining, as necessary) existing and/or new sub-functional teams, including, for example, Accounts Payable and/or Billing & Collections
  • Budgeting & Analysis: Support the company’s financial planning and analysis (FP&A) function, including the annual budgeting process and ad hoc business analyses requiring accounting data

What you’ll bring

  • Experience: At least 10 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably with (a) Big 4 and/or national practice experience, and (b) 2+ years of experience in a controller position, whether corporate or divisional 
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field; Master’s degree preferred
  • Qualifications: Active CPA license 
  • Accounting Expertise: Demonstrated understanding and application of GAAP-based financial accounting principles and practices; experience with SaaS revenue recognition including ASC 606
  • Reporting & Compliance: Experience with accrual- and cash-basis flow-through income tax reporting and other general business tax compliance requirements
  • Analytical Skills: Natural strength and comfort solving highly analytical problems utilizing data and financial figures
  • Attention to Detail: Extreme regard for detail, and commitment to flawless work
  • Communication: Demonstrated ability to communicate in a clear, concise, thoughtful, and effective manner; possessing the intellect, maturity, sophistication and self-awareness to engage effectively with executive and board level stakeholders
  • Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with a highly distributed, multi-functional team whose interests are not always aligned
  • Project Management: Ability to manage large, complex projects involving the accounting team, the broader Finance & Accounting team, cross-functional stakeholders, vendors, and outside resources
  • Building, Managing and Leading Teams: Demonstrated ability to effectively build, manage and lead high-performing teams; demonstrated ability to recruit other strong accountants and financial professionals to the organization

 Colorado applicants only: The estimated annual cash salary for this role is $208,800. The total compensation package also includes benefits (as further detailed below) as well as unit-based compensation. Compensation for other locations may vary.*
