AST is a Service-Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) who provides tailored military training, training support, and a host of services to government and private sector clients worldwide.

Summary

In the past, companies have relied on the TOPM to support the entire workforce, resulting in linguists becoming the lowest priority and leading to contractor problems migrating into government channels. The AST Linguist Ombudsman shall provide linguists a channel to voice issues, problems, and complaints without fear of repercussions.

Essential Functions

• Work with individuals and groups in an organization to help find options to resolve conflicts, problematic issues, or concerns.
• Elevate concerns to the attention of the organization for resolution.
• Listen and seek to understand issues while remaining neutral.
• Seek to understand the individual’s perspective of the issue.
• Guide or coach individuals to deal directly with other parties, use resolution resources, and communicate their concerns directly.
• Refer individuals to appropriate resolution resources.
• Assist in surfacing issues to formal resolution channels. When an individual is unable or unwilling to surface a concern directly, the ombuds can assist by helping give voice to the concern and /or creating an awareness of the issue among appropriate decision-makers.
• Facilitate informal resolution processes. An ombuds may help to resolve issues between parties through various types of informal mediation.
• Identify new issues and opportunities for systemic change for the organization. The unique position of the ombuds serves to provide unfiltered information that can produce insight to issues and resolutions.
• The ombuds is a source of detection and early warning and a source of suggestions of systemic change to improve existing processes.

Required Education and Experience

• A Bachelor’s degree in a related field and minimum of five (5) years of government contracting experience, preferably in DoD
• Demonstrated experience working in DoD contracting with a basic understanding of the FAR
• Demonstrated experience managing and reporting complex metrics
• Demonstrated ability to coordinate resources across multiple business units that are geographically dispersed
