The role of the Copy Editor encompasses providing essential support to Firm personnel and clients. We are seeking an experienced Copy Editor with a background in editing both legal and non-legal documents to join our dynamic Business Center Team. The position necessitates a strong background in the legal environment, specifically in editing and proofreading documents across various practice groups with the ability to comprehend and interpret legal and non-legal documents. The candidate should demonstrate a capacity to collaborate effectively with attorneys, paralegals, and other team members within a law firm. The candidate should also have a solid understanding of legal terminology, concepts, and procedures, along with familiarity in diverse areas of law, which is essential. Responsibilities also include adhering to firm policies, maintaining the confidentiality of firm matters, following established best practice guidelines, and fostering positive interactions with all personnel. The ideal candidate should be a self-starter comfortable thriving in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Job Description:
- Examines, revises, and elucidates an array of legal and non-legal documents
- Proofreads, edits and revises various legal and non-legal documents
- Conducts a comprehensive review and editing of legal documents, such as contracts, briefs, pleadings, and other legal correspondence, to guarantee precision, lucidity, and alignment with the firm's standards
- Effectively handle the workflow to meet challenging deadlines for document editing and delivery
- Collaborate closely with attorneys, paralegals, and other legal experts to comprehend the context of legal documents and guarantee precision in the editing process
- Execute quality control checks at various production stages, including the final documents before submission, adhering to internal and industry style guidelines, and conducting grammar and proofing
- Possess a robust understanding of the imperative for confidentiality and discretion while managing sensitive legal and non-legal documents
- Acts as a Mentor and provides training to others

- Skilled and proficient in word processing and legal document management software, such as Microsoft Word

- Ability to multi-task and manage numerous priorities, potentially sensitive clients, and communicating effectively with a diverse range of individuals within the organization

- Possesses clear and concise communication skills for collaborating with legal professionals
Reporting to the Business Center Manager, the ideal candidate will have 3+ years' of prior legal copy editing and production related experience. Law firm experience strongly preferred. Bachelor's degree preferred.

The anticipated range for this position is:
$76,000 - $103,000
Depending on the role, the actual base salary offered may depend upon a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
A discretionary bonus for eligible employees may also be available based on performance. Additional information about employee eligibility for benefits and discretionary bonus will be made available upon request.
